Unfortunately saving lives is not a fringe benefit, we have waaay too many people on the planet now. It is said we are using close to half of the entire planetary biological resource right now. What we need is a drastic reduction in human population, that is the root cause of all the CO2 and other pollutants. I get the distinct feeling there will be a major adjustment to the population of the human race in another 100 years or so if we don't act now on the climate, big acting on the climate. Personally I think whatever we do will be too little too late.
