We have all heard them. They range from New Agers like Terence Mckema and Kalhi Bhagavan who give predictions about eschatological beliefs according to which cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21, 2012. One of the most famous catalysts for such beliefs comes from the Mayan calendar which expires on that date because it represents the end of a 5,125 year long cycle. Also, another big catalyst for such speculations comes from one of the most famous doomsdayers of all time, Nostradomous.
You even have a fringe in science who believe that the date holds significance. I think one of the most compelling that I have heard is that mass extinctions on earth, in terms of the fossil records, tend to recur about every 26 million years or so. If so, that would be around 2012. One theory holds that galactic transitions that occur at this time, according to mathmatical models, increase the flux of Oort cloud of comets into the inner solar system by a factor of 4, thus increasing the risk of a cataclysmic collision between a comet and the earth.
I do realize that both Christian and atheists alike tend to snub their noses at this type of talk. For atheists, it is obvious as to why. They simply don't think that anyone can look into the future. In terms of Christians, I also understand the repulsion. Most that I know point to the fact that no dates were given for the end of times. In fact, the Bible proports that only God knows and most who have pointed to the date are not from Biblical sources, even though many tend to describe Revelation like doomsday in relation to the date. I guess that only leaves "New Agers" for the most part then.
So what say you? Do any of you think the date has significance? In addition, are there any more compelling reasons why the date holds significance?

That would be roughly 150 such extinctions over the roughly 4 billion years that the lying atheists tell us life has been on earth. Does the data support an accuracy of one part in 26 million?

As JS357 suggests, you don't seem to understand the basics of error margins.
My opinion is that prophecy is being fulfilled right under our noses.
Europe is becoming "Fortress Europe" and will soon resemble the ancient Roman Empire in its geography.
The Antichrist will arise from the encreased hostility of the secular world against the Christian Gospel.
More and more people are looking to a wise leader to solve world problems.
The US is withdrawing. Maybe she will writhdraw her military bases and chiefly function as a place for refugees to flee.
The coming Antichrist will have his sphere of enfluence probably over what was known in John's day as the whole world. Refugees fleeing from his kingdom will run to what was then considered in John's day as "wilderness". That could be the "new world" or other continents virtually less known outside the Roman Empire.
The natural calamities can somewhat be explained by science. But then will come calamities in nature which science cannot explain.
I think things are shaping up right under our noses for the coming of Christ and the glorious millennial kingdom. No, it is not "the end of the world" from the Christian's perspective.
Whether you consider it the end or the beginning depends on where you stand in relation to Christ's kingship.
But I really look forward to all the critics and enemies of the Gospel to have their mouths totally shut. The universal vindication of that Nazarene, Jesus, the Son of Man, the Son of God is the one inevitable of world history. That much I know.

rated games if I am to get my rating up to expert level before time
runs out.

I don't know who 'new agers' are, but the people who like dooms day talk are the gullible types who go in for that sort of thing and they may be members of any religion or even be atheist.
But I dont see this as "doomsday talk" at all. I see it as change, a change that we have the power to influence.
In a way , I hope these predictions are wrong, but I'm preparing either way.
I mean I'm on my spiritual path anyway, so if the sky falls in today or on the 21st of december, or never, the fact is that my body will die,so which ever way I look at it, I must prepare.
It's 90% preparation.
