If the bible is gibberish to an unbeliever, then it is worthless for convincing others to join the faith it represents. Therefore, all the time that you spend quoting scripture to unbelievers is wasted.

This stance sounds very much like the old catholic tradition of denying the congregation the right to read the bible. They used to have to go to a priest and have it 'interpreted' for them.

You are implying that believers accurately portray the views of 'the head of the religion.' From the misinterpretation of the bible that many of your literalist friends do at this site, I can hardly say that you or they portray the views of 'the head of the religion'.
