The capital letter makes the word a proper noun and thus not only is a false 'God' not 'the God' but your sentence was incorrect in using the phrase 'a God'. Of cause someone who knows the Hebrew might be able to better explain what was meant by 'false God/god' in the original.

But on a more serious note, what does the Bible mean be 'god' anyway? I believe that the Jews created a god in the form of a golden calf. I am not aware of any verses that state that the golden calf was not a god. So was there an implication that the calf did gain some supernatural qualities, or does a god not have to have supernatural qualities but merely be an object of worship?
