In my case, if I were to use the "blinders" metaphor, I'd say my life story ~ spiritually speaking ~ is one of removing "blinders" and leaving the stuff you believe in behind me.
Do you think the faculties which I used to think independently and allowed me to realize that I no longer believed in the religious ideology you happen to subscribe to (regardless of whether or not you approve) were given to me by your God figure?
