Was the serpent good?

What evil did they see? Freaky seems to think there was no evil until after they ate from the tree. Are you claiming that evil predated that event? In any case, the bible is quite explicit in that Adam and Eve had no knowledge of good and evil until after they ate from the tree. Furthermore, it is quite apparent that god did not want them to have thi ...[text shortened]... e then either? Does it follow that god did not even intend for mankind to have free will at all?

there is only one good and one evil
Uuuh, so that man would have free will, yeeeah, that's the ticket.
An "I don't know" would be much more appropriate.

Here's a reasonable definition of 'free will' that I just found:
'Free Will' is a philosophical term of art for a particular sort of capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives.
I wouldn't think that the 'various alternatives' would have to include both 'good' and 'evil'.
