Everything should have a moral lesson at the end of it, heck why read a book or watch a movie or even go through a hard time if there is nothing you're gonna learn from it?[/b]
Honestly? Is simple enjoyment of something not enough of a reason for you?

Pictures quite often make difficult words easier to understand. I think many wouldn't understand the poem if they read it from a book without such pictures?

Yes, I did. I always liked the books with more pictures in them to illustrate
the stories to help me imagine what the words were actually saying. A
book without pictures was always a dull book to read in my opinion.

if you're looking for a good moral, you'll find one at the end of the rime of the ancient mariner. plus you get an excellent story.

now if so called christians learned the moral of that story, the world, at least the united states, would be a much better place.

Yes it is but you wont keep on reading if there is nothing to enjoy right? If so, you might be the only person that I know that will do it or if you won't, the moral of the story is that you won't read something that you don't like. The End.

I pick up two moral stories...

I am not sure I am right but I may not see the bigger picture if there is one.

1. Don't listen to the Devil. The promise is temporary sadness and a lot of knowledge. Thus the mariner is the Devil which is misleading the crew and also the darn wedding guests.

2. Learn from mistakes others are making, if you see a mariner at your wedding or on your boat - get him out of there!

How do you know there's nothing to enjoy if you don't read right up to the end?

Well personally the first few pages makes it. If the content of the book that I am reading is not interesting from the start, i will leave it unread forever. I like reading a lot and have done this many times. One book that i really wanted to read after looking the movie was The Count of Monte Cristo. The movie was excellent and when I got the book my first impression was what the heck is this. I tried reading the book 3 times and put it away. A book i will not waste time on reading, but I'll rather spend another 3 hours (give or take the length of the movie) watching it again.

That is me - you may differ.

Edit: Now that I think of it, i do the same with movies. I am as much on imdb.com reading about movies and new releases before actually going to watch the movie. I have had to walk out the cinema too many times wasting my money and time on crap movies.

Yes but the point is can you enjoy a story that doesn't have a simple moral conclusion to it?

no, it's much simpler than that. it's actually spelled out in the poem near the end.

He prayeth best, who loveth best
All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all.'
