Thats what happens if you are an Atheist.
Either way, if I am wrong, and God exists afterall, I can face him face to face with a clear conscience. And I'll tell him I'll never be blind and will always think by my own head. If he doesn't like, it's not my problem.

Comfort only comes the other side of repentance and having your self righteousness smashed to pieces. If you don't think there are times when christians wished God did not infact exist you do not understand it. God will wreck your life if you let him get anywhere near you.
Not comforting.
Religious belief is comforting.
I like to live in reality.

I'll never let god get near me. Nor the IRS.

Can someone choose to be good in hell or is all free will removed once you get there?
Then again, I guess there is only one way to find out for sure. I just don't plan to be the one finding it out. 😉

Freedom from "good" smitings and such. That part of "goodness" I can live without.
Notice that there are no smitings during or after the time of Christ. However, there were smitings to pave the way for his coming. 😉

Deeply and often...
Now, here’s the rub(s)*—
Under what conditions would you want that not to be true?
If it is true, do you think that enhances your existence now, or diminishes it?
If it is true, do you want to love less, or more?
If it is true, do you want to be crueler or kinder?

Now, if he was limited, I might be more sympathetic. However God could just as easily accomplished his goals without smiting, assuming omnipotence.
