God is not looking for people to simply believe that he exists, rather, he is looking for people to place their faith in him. For example, Adam and Eve believed God existed but lost faith in him. The children of Israel saw God split the Red Sea and send manna down from heaven to eat but still lost faith in him and built a golden calf to worship instead. I can personally say that if God were to suddenly 'prove' itself to me, I would go out of my way to find an excuse not to believe.
I'm one of those rare honest atheists.
I don't disbelieve because of lack of proof.
I disbelieve because it gives my life a purpose and reality that belief in God would destroy.
In essence I have to believe there is no God. So if God were tio demonstrate it's existence I would rally against this I'm sure.
