In a thread I’m following elsewhere a person has asked for a photo of a “round” earth, and goes on to state that until they see one they won’t believe the earth is round.
Despite most flat earthers claiming all photos of the earth from space are faked because mankind has never been into space.
Of course what they really mean is that they want a photo of a spherical earth which is impossible to capture in a way which shows it’s a sphere.
Flat-earthism is a fascinating ideology which is of course unsupported biblically.

@divegeester saidFlat Earthers, like YECs, are impervious to both evidence and argument. Don’t waste your time on them. Obviously, any photo of Earth from space is only two-dimensional and will not convince a FE the world is a globe.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI’d like to see a few others to corroborate.

I’d like to see a few others to corroborate.
“And gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.” (Isaiah 11:12)
"After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth..." (Revelation 7:1)
The above is hardly surprising as all writers of the bible (and their contemporaries) would have been flat Earthers. It does indicate however human, rather than divine, authorship as an omniscient God would have known the shape of the Earth.

Do you think some of this thinking has been carried forward into contemporary Christian ideology?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI do not believe this commits one to any particular stance regarding a flat or global Earth. The four winds and other references to four directions stem obviously from human body symmetry: left, right, front, and rear. (If we could fly, they would have been six, including up and down).

@divegeester saidMany contemporary Christians, who take episodes like Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden as a literal account will, nonetheless, conveniently take passages that speak of the four corners of the Earth as figurative.
Interesting.

@moonbus saidThe writers themselves would have believed the Earth was flat. (Hence why we have the devil taking Jesus to a high mountain and being able to show him all the kingdoms of the world. - Impossible with a spherical Earth).

Anyone alive today who believes the Earth is flat will rightly receive a raised eyebrow, but in biblical times everybody who existed would have thought the Earth was flat and viewed the idea of a spherical Earth as crazy.

@divegeester saidI don't know how to embed YouTube "shorts".
Nice one; but please learn to embed YouTube clips for the convenience of others.
Thank you.
