@divegeester saidA time of reflection upon family ~ possibly due to increased contact with them ~ and the richness they bestow upon one's life in their various ways.
Is there such a thing for you?
And if so, is it a literal spirit (as in an entity), an alcoholic spirit, a nice feeling, or something else more profound?

There is no change in the amount of alcohol consumed that results from it being Christmas, not for me. Even at New Year's.

@divegeester saidI experience zero percentage points of the potential /proverbial friction /stress that Brits often riff on when talking about the family Christmas dinner etcetera.
‘Family at Christmastime’ is for me an interesting contrast of them both making it, and potentially ruining it.

@divegeester saidMass on Christmas Eve at 9 pm is exuberant and steeped in expectation. Mass on Christmas Day at 7 am is noisy and infested with children!

Not much anymore. Just dinner at relatives' house and exchange a few gift cards. I do like being off work though.
@divegeester saidNot as such, no.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidChristmas spirit.
I like going for a walk in a park on Christmas day (especially when we had the dog) as the Christmas spirit is palpable and people a lot friendlier.
This is a somewhat falsified manifestation of people who seemingly desperately need a reason to feel better about themselves. It's a mental construct. This holiday has precious little to do with the birth of humanity's savior and more of a fantastical corporate money grab.

@suzianne saidNevertheless, in that park on Christmas day strangers wish each other happy Christmas and have a shared sense of happiness and wellbeing. (Even atheists).

This rings false for the followers of Jesus I live among here. Are you perhaps projecting some shallowness or emptiness you experience where you live onto the entire world?
@divegeester saidIt's Saturnalia in my family, and we put on a feast.

@suzianne saidThe same could be said about you in reference to what you wrote about yourself in the OP of you’re “Adieu” thread.
