Racism and guns - listen carefully, oh Jammy Wam - are symptoms of the need to oppress individual freedom to oblige the populace to create wealth that corporate industrialists can horde and squander.

Television - while we have your obviously limited attention, JW - is the most recent opiate of the masses. It teaches us to want what we don't have, thus also helping enslave us.

Consumerism is a millennial evil. Unless, of course, you subscribe to the notion that the planet must be plundered so that you can have 30 pairs of fashionable sneakers.

Please look longer and harder at the picture before giving up. Try to connect the dots. And for goodness sake, keep your crayons within the lines.

Right, left, right, left...

Oil for our cars. Bodies to feed the machine that protects oil profits.

Ignore poverty, racism, guns and any social investments - too expensive!

Tell it to the grunts on the ground in Iraq. Tell it to the unfortunate folks in Louisiana.
You are a complete idiot!, arrogant, stuffy, ready to swallow all that comes down the pipeline kind of a fool.
You can't even follow the debate...it has been conceded that the earth is warming, what is not is that man is the cause. You can be a fool, and just repeat your rhetoric, but where you come from you probably are so used to high taxes and government control, you don't notice...😠

Hey - we've found common ground!

I am without TV, too... (Also without running shoes.)

No wonder we are such tooth-gritting adversaries. No distractions!

Ok, so checkbaiter and others who dispute that the global warming is due to man's actions - consider this:

1. The multitude of scientists who are reporting many effects of global warming and who are linking man made greenhouse gasses and pollution to this effect using data models. What do they have to gain from this observation and assertions? OK - perhaps they are simply trying to justify themselves and gain a research grant for a few years or more. Or maybe they just want to be famous. In my experience, most scientists are learned people interested in finding out more about the world about us and are not primarily motivated by money.

2. Bush and his friends in big business (and some other scientists) who dispute the previously mentioned scientist's claims - what do they have to gain from the belief that man's pollution does not cause global warming? By not signing the Kyoto treaty (as he promised he would before the 1st election), Bush has ensured that the Petroleum refining companies in Texas and the like, will not have to pay 100's of millions of dollars fitting cleaning apparatus to the chimneys of their refineries. These companies payrolled Bush's election campaign.
Do you spot a conflict of interest here?

Who stands most to gain from lying? Could it be the same side who lied about MWD? Could it be the same side who would rather let poor Americans die than rush in and save them from a natural disaster? Could it be the same side who don't give a monkeys about anyone except big business?

You betcha - they would rather send the whole world up s**t creek without a paddle if it meant making a fast buck for them and their friends.
And the sad thing is that the very people they are selling short (unless you are directly profitting from the Oil Companies, CB, etc) are swallowing their lies and defending their despicable actions!

What you are saying is the motive for the theory is more important than the correctness of the theory.

Howie, your patience is commendable.

Wasn't it the the measured temperture being far greater than had been calculated that gave rise to the global warming hypothesis?

Also, the logic of greenhouse gases preventing sufficient nighttime radiational cooling is tough to argue against.
silly me .. left out the planet Venus out of that post

When the Labour gummint signed up to kyoto, they sold it to the public by saying we would actually get credits based on the number of trees being planted. It was wildly over estimated, so it looks like NZ will owe credits i.e. extra taxes. When people are allowed to keep more of the money they earn they generally spend it on making their lives better...so you see there will be less money to spend on improving their lot...their prosperity will be limited.

Not only that, there will be a whole new army of parasitical busy body un-productive bureauRatic kyoto police to feed.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

If you want to ride a tree to work go for it...I'll stick with my car.

If it's about "more than money" why does kyoto mean someone elses sticky fingers in my pocket?

BTW the trees (whose numbers were grossly exagerated) don't have leaves like in your poem, they're actually quite ugly pines that mature in 25 years then get the chop.

OMG!!! You dont believe in global warming???
Why would anyone make this up?
There a huge gaping hole in the ozone layer. And it wasnt there before we polluted the place!
If we dont do someting about it the ozon layer will eventually disappear, the polar caps will melt, the earth will be flooded, water will vaporise into space and earth will end up like mars.
Do you want to be responsible for the destruction of mankind???
You must be the most egoistic person ever to roam the earth if you dont care about our children and the future generations.

I have only one advice for someone who does not believe in global warming: PLEASE GET SOME EDUCATION!!!
