Well, that is an interesting testimony. And I'm both happy for you good education and sorry for your experience with your grandmother.
But you know, some people were turned off because they wanted to be turned off.
I mean, I've been offended by religious people at some time also. That is not terribly unique. Maybe the offences I incurred were equal t ...[text shortened]... mary treatment of women as compared to other surrounding ancient Near East societies.
The Mormons I mentioned were so arrogant and stupid, they went to Bangkok and saw the Emerald Buddha and if you know about Buddhism, the butt is the low part of the body and the head the highest spiritually speaking. So what did they do?
Climbed up the frigging EMERALD BUDDHA, one of the most sacred figures in Buddhism, sat on its head, had a brother take a picture, and then he climbs down and the brother climbs up, straddling the head, gets picture taken.
So they took the film to a local photoshop, being extremely stupid, not knowing the photo guy there was Buddhist, or probably not even caring, but had the photo's processed. The photo guy has to look at the images to decide if they are dudes and not expose it so saw the aforementioned images, got incensed, called the cops.
These asssholes got arrested, put in the slammer, which you don't want to do in Thailand, for 6 months, THEN deported.
That is the kind of thing that goes on with Christians all around the world. Insensitivity to foreign cultures. Does the name Cortez mean anything to you?

Yes, I know about Cortez.
What did Jesus do to you ?
How did Jesus harm you ?

How do you explain out of body experiences where people, blind from birth, are able to see themselves and their surroundings as medics fight to save their lives?[/b]
Seeing when you have never seen before is a scientific impossibility.
So is knowing what went on in another room during an out of body experience.

There is religious war going on as we speak, Muslim terrorists bombings and such, and christians retaliating. The bible says turn the other cheek but that isn't how it works out, is it?
Jesus died 2 thousand years ago and BTW did not ascend into heaven, he survived the cross, was cut down early, covered with ALOE, healing herbs as you can see clearly in the bible, and then MIRACULOUSLY showed up 3 days later and instead of ascending like you all think, just skipped town, knowing he would not have a second chance, walked up the silk road to found monasteries and died in Kashmir.

A series of websites which give people's opinions or give definitions
Search a bit further and you will find first hand accounts of people being in rooms away from their body and giving accurate accounts of what went on, and of blind people giving accurate descriptions of what they saw.
There are an awful lot of unanswered questions out there, however some of these out of body experiences challenge the view that the spirit is wholly and permenantly dependent on the chemistry of the brain.
Originally posted by colinwbswho tested the accuracy of the accounts and which credible institution keeps these records?

Deep. This may be worthy of a separate thread if it can be kept to the topic. Which means, never mind.
This can be found many places on the Internet. The phrase is almost a meme by now.

Secondly, the atrocities committed by Cortez and his men had nothing to do with Jesus. They were the actions of evil men, whether they claimed to be Christian or not. Their fault lies entirely with them, they were weak and driven by motives that had nothing to do with Jesus.
No matter how many times an atheist has to try and make this connection, it simply doesn't hold water.

P.S. The love of riches is the root of all evil, not Christianity.

Originally posted by Suziannewhile the continental expansion was driven for the wealth of the few, the people in general don't support expansion for the riches that benefit the few. the people in general were driven by a deeply damaging ideology and it happened to be christianity in their case.

other damaging ideologies have since replaced christianity (and religion in general for the most part) in driving modern atrocities. democracy, communism, fascism, nationalism, capitalism etc. millions have perished under the banners of those false christs.
Originally posted by sonhouseHe did not seem to be interested in converting anyone to Christianity, as I understand it. If he was told to convert them to Christianity then he ignored it due to his lust for riches. How could he convert any of them to Christianity if he killed the whole bunch and looted all there gold and silver? I think you got your head up your arse again.
