Because I didn't get that. Is he saying he's going to.... erm... like, knock your teeth up your arse or something? If so, it seems like a rather convoluted way of saying "I'm going to hit you".[/b]
I took it to mean he thought I was talking out of my posterior.

However you could also read it as a reverse of, "hit you in the nuts so hard
you choke on them".

I just thought it was amusing how little he knows me that he thought I wouldn't
say what I was saying to his face.

Oh yeah, I absolutely agree about the atheists. I don't think we'd be here if we didn't have some sort of chip on our shoulder concerning religion. As to has the biggest, I'd say it's a toss up between twhitehead, googlefudge and Sonhouse. Others like stellspalfie I think are mostly enjoying the ludericiousness (sp?) of religion.

I have to disagree... at least with regards to myself.

I don't have a chip on my shoulder about religion.

I was never hurt by religion, or beaten out by religion, feel inadequate about
my lack of religion... ect.

I just think it's both wrong and dangerous, and an important topic to talk about...
Which few people want to do.

Now you can accuse me of all kinds of things, but a chip on my shoulder isn't one of them.

At least not according to any of the definitions I can find, or the origins of the phrase.

Being passionately against something, or arguing about a topic doesn't require or necessarily
indicate a chip on a persons shoulder.

Things can piss you off without causing shoulder chips.... or French fries.... with ketchup.

Sorry, I'm back now.

There are many people who post here, some listed, on all sides who are passionate and/or rude
when presenting their position.

That doesn't mean they have a chip on their shoulder.

Hmmm... i guess that makes more sense. Not a lot, but a bit.

Maybe I'm using the phrase wrong. If so, I'd like to play the "English is not my first language" card. I thought it meant having a kind of "hatred" towards something.

EDIT: And I can't help but feel that you do hate religion and faith.

why is that relevant?

you accused 3 people of "having a chip on their shoulder" . i would like to know if you have arguments to back that (baseless) statement or you simply do not agree with them.

Not quite.

And I did have to go and look up some definitions after reading the op, to check I was
interpreting the phrase right.

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/have-a-chip-on-your-shoulder

to seem angry all the time because you think you have been treated
unfairly or feel you are not as good as other people:
He's got a chip on his shoulder about not having been to university.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_on_shoulder

The phrase having a chip on one's shoulder refers to holding a grudge or
grievance that readily provokes disputation.

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/have+a+chip+on+shoulder

to blame other people for something bad which has happened to you and to
continue to be angry about it so that it affects the way you behave (often + about )
Even though he went to university, he's always had a chip on his shoulder about his
poor upbringing.

And while I will readily admit to disliking religion... (hate is debatable) and faith based belief
I don't have a chip on my shoulder about it.

Otherwise by extension you could say Churchill had a chip on his shoulder because he
hated Hitler and the Nazi's... Which just doesn't fit.

Ah, yeah, that's indeed different than what I thought it meant. In that case I don't think there's anybody on this forum for whom that description really works well. Some right-wingers on the Debates forum do seem to fit the bill, though.

EDIT:

Looking at this particular description to blame other people for something bad which has happened to you and to
continue to be angry about it so that it affects the way you behave (often + about )
I'd say Sonhouse might have a chip on his shoulder because he seems to blame America's failing* educational system on mostly religion.

* not sure if America's educational system is actually failing, by the way.

Balanced it out with a thumbs up for the high five ;-)

I thought I had a chip on my shoulder but it turned out to be an ordinary potato.
