These are the folks who believe the age of the earth is only slightly more than 6,000 years. As you might imagine, they also do not believe in the theory of evolution.

Hmmm. Well I'm not sure what I believe in any more. I used to be a staunch believer of scientific explanations for everything. If they are applying C14 in the wrong way, then I agree with you. However they don't. Those who says otherwise are just afraid of the inplications or don't understand the C14-theory. Let's call the C14 isotope the 'Darwin particle' in the future.
Suppose the discovery of the Higgs particle, the so called god particle, can be used to prove the true age of the universe, then its very existance would be denied by YECs.
