Atheists feel that if they were somehow able to eliminate religion from the face of the earth that the world would be a better place. That might be true if 'making the world a better place' meant giving Satan a free hand in the ruination of humanity and far more souls getting snuffed out after Judgment. I'm sure the AntiChrist will agree once he comes to ...[text shortened]... ? It only makes people believe that Christians are all ignorant. I feel a new topic coming on.
It's like being offered a pill that will make everything around you seem hunky-dory because the bad stuff is being shielded from you. Would you take that pill?
Religion is the opium of the people
The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness.

As a Christian, you claim that not only do you know who created everything in the universe, but that he will listen to you (prayers) and occasionally do favors for you (answer prayers). It is incomprehensible that someone like that has the audacity to accuse someone else of having a "monstrous ego."
- They (theists) believe we (humans) were created in the image of (a) god.
- They believe we (humans) are the pinnacle of creation. And those theists that accept the theory of evolution believe we are the pinnacle of evolution.
- They believe their religion is the only true religion.
- They believe their individual existence and actions are important enough to actually upset/move/dissapoint a being that has apparently existed forever, will exist forever and is the inventor and creator of everything that has existed, currently exists and will someday exist in the universe.
- They believe the earth was created specifically for us and its other inhabitants exist for us to command.
- The being described above finds us to be important enough to built a heaven for us to exist in after death (not sure if theists believe god also created hell).

All God requires of us is faith. Even the tiny bit of faith managed by the tiniest mustard seed is enough. But you can't even let yourself be bothered to that miniscule degree, for the One who is responsible for everything you can see around you.
Your monstrous ego requires 'evidence'. After all that has been done for you, you actually think you deser ...[text shortened]... s ALL that His bargain requires. But you can't even give Him that, after all He's done for you.

The Creationist preachers who say things such as "would you rather be special and made in the image of god or evolved from slime?" make me laugh.
What's wrong with slime?
It's all about greed. Theists want stuff. Be it eternal life or paradise or the feeling of being special or having a godlike image... reading the theists' posts on this board it's blindingly obvious that they "believe" because it get's them something - or so the poor sods think.
Arrogance and greed. What a nice combination.

We all live in an imperfect, yet real world, atheist and theist alike. I just think atheists like to go around with their fingers in their ears, saying "LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU" when it comes to God. 😛
Your quotes, of course, are the source of why people tend to think of socialism as a 'godless' form of government. It doesn't have to be.

The arrogance is in thinking that an entire universe was created for us.
Fact: the universe was here billions of years before we came along and will continue to be here for trillions and trillions of years after we've become extinct.
It wasn't.
We were created to resolve the angelic conflict.
Duh.

Really? That's what you think of all the atheists that you've spoken to here and elsewhere over the years? That we don't listen to what you are saying?
That's either a big, fat lie or you have terrible reading comprehension.
If it's the first it's extremely unfair to all the people who take the time to discuss these issues with you.

The arrogance is in thinking that an entire universe was created for us.
does not negate this
We were created to resolve the angelic conflict.
and as such the two have nothing to do with each other.
However, I'm intrigued by what you're saying here, so if you will, please explain what you mean by that last sentence.
Oh, and Duh yourself. Front and back.

I assume you mean my second to last sentence, since you didn't seem to cotton to the actual last one worded sentence.
Millions, possibly billions of years ago, the universe was created.
Sometime after that creation, angels were created.
For an undetermined amount of time, all was good.
Eventually, however, the pinnacle of creation, the most beautiful and magnificent creature, Lucifer, began to over-think his importance.
Outside of God, he was the most revered person of the universe--- and worth it by any and all estimations.
He was, quite simply, spectacular in every regard: brilliance, beauty, charisma.
But as I said, he began to over-think.
The adoration of other creatures coupled with the sheer magnificence of his own being led him to consider himself as at least equal to God in importance.
This opened the door for him to elevate himself a bit further: why should other creatures worship God, when Lucifer was clearly a thing to behold?
He convinced himself and then proceeded to convince others that he should supplant the Most High.
As stated, he was brilliant beyond measure which, when joined with his natural charisma (charm? The personal magnetism he possesses makes Clinton look like a toothless gibberish-speaking urine-soaked homeless man), eventually led to a third of all angels to openly and willingly chose against God.
In a word, rebellion.
God went to pass judgement on Lucifer (now renamed Satan, for deceiver), but he objected to the sentence, declaring it (Lucifer's fall) was inevitable since God had made him that way.
In the interest of complete fairness, God proposed a thought experiment: create a scenario which would principally reproduce the conditions present in what led to the angelic conflict and reveal whether the creature could choose to follow God, if they were free to do so.
Satan won a battle, but has already lost the war... he just doesn't know it yet.
