I pulled this off a Swedish news site:
Sport
2002 Estimates of Participants Worldwide
Number of Affiliated National Federations

And did you make up the last 2 figures?

Now tell me what the US has achieved in these sports recently?
Per capita, the US get spanked in the Olympics too.

i would be willing to make a large wager with you that USA will take the gold in china, after being humiliated last time. let me know via pm if you would like to take me up on it.

One of the little known secrets of the olympics is that a majority of the athletes live and train in the US. They go to college in the US for track and field. A couple of years ago I saw a stat that showed a quarter of them living in California alone!
We may win the next B-Ball gold, we may not. It is sort of stacked against us. Different rules and we send a team of all-stars. We would be better off sending a good NBA team.
Originally posted by Red Nightforeign star power in the NBA is getting alot more noticable in the past few years for sure. i still am not willing to wager against the US in that sport. as far as foreign countries training and playing in america... can you blame them? america puts ALOT of money into their sporting events. to not play in america when you are truly good at something would not e nearly as profitable.

US losing at B-Ball, both in the world championships and the olympics has been dissapointing, but not terribly dissapointing. Here i nthe states we just don't care that much.
There are some great players coming from all over the world to play in the NBA. It is a tribute to Basketball and the USA in general that the game has become so popular.
There is no question that we can win and should win...I think the question is do we care enough to win.

If we put together a real team with role players and practice and not just send an all-star team...we'll win. It is almost inconceivable to think we won't win again.

The big shock to our close-minded European friends will come when we win the World Cup.
Originally posted by Red Nighti cant wait till that happens. then we can say we are the best and we dont even care about soccer/football. a good slap in the face for the world.

They will only have one goal they feel they need to reach, and the rest of their life will be a flip of the coin shootout in overtime.
It will be a sad day if we win.

The US is getting better every year. We have more players than ever playing in major European leagues. I think there are 13 in the Premier League alone now.
Q: Who was the only world cup side that Italy played and didn't beat in the 2006 cup?
All the external factors that work against us in FIBA will work for us in the Cup. We may win as soon as 2010.

Originally posted by Red NightYep, real good result. USA finished last in their group, did not win a match and they only scored 1 goal (against Ghana). Italy scored an own goal in the 1 -1 draw with the USA.

Even Australia did better than you guys.
13, second rate players in the premier league will not win you a world cup.
