Serena Williams

Get a grip people.

In truth, the electronics are advanced enough...let's do away with humans introducing bias and judgement error altogether.

Hell, why play the matches at all...let the computers simulate the outcome?

Seriously? A borderline foot fault call to give the opponent match point? I would have thrown my racket right at the line judge's face. I don't blame Serena at all for losing her cool - she's an emotional player and that was a TERRIBLE call.

Yup, and I am going to tell you my reasons.

There is a leeway within sports for toughness and the risks go with the discipline. For example, injuries, some rough talk, etc. However, when it goes beyond that, it becomes part of not only the sport but what it portrays to the spectators outside, e.g. kids who see athletes as role models.

If a football play ...[text shortened]... to make a buck or two in an out-of-court settlement from the Williams clan's pocket, lol 🙂

It is a criminal act to throw your racket in a line judge's face. Just because she is a star athlete having a bad day does not give her the right to behave inappropriately. Refs are there to make calls; not to take abuse. It is simply not acceptable. Serena should be mad at herself as she played terribly; not a line judge who does his job.

In which hole do you want my racket, Bruce?

You're all kinds of misinformed.

a. She did not throw her racket.
b. The line judge was a woman.
c. Clearly Serena WAS mad at herself all through the match.

And while Serena may have played terribly by her standards, that still does not justify the line judge's horrible call on a major non-offense at the most crucial point of the game. Nothing drags a great game down more than over-officiating. Probably the worst call I've ever seen in a tennis game.

Seitse, you are a pussy. Do you often feel intimidated by a woman's tennis player? Outbursts at referees are common in all sports. You just don't like black people.

Independently from my contempt for her for not belonging to the master race...

Truth is that I understand the bursts of rage, the passion, and even share (and secretly) enjoy the tantrums within professional sports. But, man, "I am going to kill you" ? Prrrrrlease!

That's as lame as Very Rusty or Grampy Bobby saying it here in an internet forum.

Edit. Hey, wait, I think I get it now... what is the ethnicity of the threatened ref?

er...um...I think you have the quote wrong. You, of all people, would probably like the thought of what was actually said. She said "I am going to shove this ball up your ass and then I am going to hunt you down and kill you."

Big difference, docha think? 😉

Can you prove that she said that?

I've read conflicting reports all day.

Either way, she was fined as she should have been. But calling her a thug and saying she should go to court? RACIST.

Can I prove it...no. But if you read her lips from the camera angle that captured the tirade, you can pretty easily understand it. Plus, a portion of the audio was picked up where she says she was going to shove the ball up her and then it was bleeped.

You said that you'd throw your racket at the line judge's face. Would you agree that that would be absurd behavior?
No matter what you do for a living there are acceptable responses to things you do not agree with. Throwing a racket in someone's face (your suggestion is criminal); the fact that she is a professional athlete and she feels it was the wrong call or something that should not be called does not make it acceptable to threaten a line judge.
