Recently been to New York and watched the Yankees play for the first time and am hooked big time. Can someone explain the group stages and who qualifies for I assume a knockout after the group stages are complete.
The Yankees seem a little off the pace but can they still go through???
Thanks
Dicky
For the playoffs, the best team from each division go through, then also one team from each league that has the best record besides the three that win their divisions. These extra two are called wild cards. Then it's a best of seven elimination series. The Yanks have been climbing a bit, but they still have a ways to go even for the wild card.

they're good at answering any questions.
^ Great book.
But seriously, dicky, there are two leagues - the National and American. Each league has 4 teams that advance from the regular season to the playoffs. Those four play in an elimination series (1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3, winner of 1 vs. 4 vs. winner of 2 vs. 3) to determine who the champion of each league is. The two league champions then compete in the World Series to determine who the WORLD CHAMPIONS (that's right - i said it!) are.
Each league has 3 divisions. The winner from each division is guaranteed a playoff spot. The last spot goes to the team with the best record after the division winners.
