Originally posted by spurs73It really cuts to the bone when people only remember TC playing for L**ds! He made his name at Bramall Lane.... we bought him from Watford in '68 and sold him up the M1 in '76.
i remember alan woodword...he was a legend... i still got bubble gum cards with him on it in the united shirt..
on another point i only remember Currie playing for leeds united... just cannt recall him playing for sheff.Utd.. when was that in the 60s?
Currie is a Lane legend... was the artisan of our '71 promotion, and collected most of his 17 England caps while in Sheffield.
Supporters still attend matches in the United shirt with CURRIE 10 emblazoned on the back!
The man was a maestro, and would've had more caps if he's played for a more fashionable team... in my opinion he was head and shoulders above the likes of Hudson, Bowles, Bell, the amazingly one-footed Brooking, and Worthington (tho' he was more of a striker).

I've not seen Charlton, Law, Best or Edwards play live only on replayed games so I'll amend it.

Following on from the other thread how about picking the top 11 of the team you support. Only rule is that you must have seen this player play (either live or live in a tv game as opposed to having read about him in the clubs history books!)
I have followed spurs since the 70s and this is all time spurs 11:-
JENNINGS (GK)
PERRYMAN (RB)
ROBERTS (CH)
...[text shortened]... eter taylor-mf
crooks-fw
(picked thism of the cuff..may change my mind in a few weeks
😀😀)
Your Spurs team looks great but not sure about these placings:-
Jennings - I can't really remember but he must have been good to be better than Clemance.
Roberts - How about Gough?
Ardiles - Ahead of Gascoigne?
Klingsmann - Ahead of Clive Allen, Mr 49 goals in a season?
I'd also put Berbatov ahead of Crooks on the bench. Mind you I remember a header Crooks scored against Liverpoool at Anfield to end your 70 year period without a victory at Anfield. So he's a good lad Crooks.

The best keepr ever to play for the club. Clamence wasa good but for me not in the same class as Jennings.
It was hard to leave Gascoign out, but you know he only played a couple of seasons for us where as Ardiles was member of the team for those great years between 1978-84 when spurs won FA cup twice, Cup winners cup, and runners up in league cup. also finished 4th in the old first division.
As for Barbatov.. well he has only been here for one season and this season his form has been poor. Crooks and Archibold had a fantastic partnership in the early 80s. It was hard to leave them both out of the starting 11.
Gough was great, but i think Roberts just edges him out, he was a real hardman in the true meaning of the word. But i take your point, and as i said, on another day there may be a lot of changes to that starting 11😀

...no room for Mark Hughes???
He always played at a consistently very high standard.
His commitment and presance on the pitch was almost as good as Keane's.
He also had the ability to win games with amazing individual goals.
His lacked a little bit though with the number of goals he would score in a season.
For me though I'd say that Yorke at his best was better, for 2 years Yorke was Uniteds outstanding player, he ever outperformed Beckham, Keane, Giggs, Scholes and was the main reason United won the treble (in my opinion).
Cantona and Rooney are also better players for the team than Hughes.
Don't get me wrong though, Hughes is right up there as one of the top 5 strikers i've ever seen play for United.

I understand why you put Ardiles in there, again though I remember Gascoign at Spurs was possibly the best player in the country and would win games on his own. When he ran with the ball it was an awesome sight. Lets not forget the free kick in the semi final against Arsenal as well.
Roberts like you say was a hard man, consistently held things together and was a real rock in defense. I liked Gough though because the guy was pure class.
Calm on the ball, creative and rarely made mistakes.
As for Berbatov, I think he's the best Spurs striker I've seen in a long time.
He'll come good again when Spurs get players back and start playing consistently.
Imagine Berbatov with Waddle and Gascoigne, the interplay would be truely world class.
Nigel Martyn
Paul Madeley
Lucas Radebe
Trevor Cherry
Gary Kelly
Harry Kewell (before he went to Liverpool and got rubbish!)
Billy Bremner
Gordon Strachan
Peter Lorimer
Allan Clarke
Mark Viduka
I didn't pick players I associate more with another club. And I left out Tony Currie to avoid irritating blade 🙂
