how can i find a non-sub tournament?
I am not a sub.
so help me.
I suggest you look at the Open Invites page and take up any game available to you, then play 5 games to get a provisional rating.
When you have a reasonable history of completed games is the time to start thinking about extra things such as tournaments and subscriptions.

Few businesses give away any of their product for free, those that do normally offer only the lowest-grade of their product, to encourage people to pay to get the better facilities. It's no different from a free Visa card with basic service, a $75 Visa card with award points, a $250 Visa gold card with a higher credit limit, and a $900 Visa platinum card with unlimited credit, award points, free holiday competitions and all sorts of bells and whistles.
there are some chesswebs where non-subs can participate in tournaments, this site seems to create a kind of 'racism' against non-subs
You get what you pay for - and for free, on a commercial website, you get to use the basic facilities for up to 6 games at a time. End of story.
Your use of the word "racism" is an emotive claim of perceived discrimination, and I reject your use of it in this context.
Originally posted by FabianFnasI agree on your points. But I think it's important with non-subs also because those who's interested in chess will become subs sooner or later.
I pay my subscription fee of some specific reasons:
(1) I can start as many new games as I want, not only 6 parallell ones. Some non-subs want to have more than their 6 alotted games. If there were no limits for the non-subs, then I don't have the reason to pay my fee.
(2) I can participate in tournaments. Some subs want to participate subs too. If ...[text shortened]... generous to let non-subs play for free, their 6 games and occational non-sub tournament.
I stumbled across this site by coincidence, and I wouldn't have become a sub right away. Just want to check things out first. Now it's my favourite site on the web.
i am new to this site and I just wanted to put my two cents worth in here. I am new to chess and wanted to improve my game. This site is one of many that i am trying out. I want to see which one I like the best and which one will help me be the better player more. So when i came across the tournaments, I wanted to join (practice makes perfect right) and since I could not find one to join, I looked under the forums and found this one........to my surprise, I see how members who sub are against non-sub members playing against them. What is up with that? And why would a non-sub want to be become a sub if we are treated badly prior to sub'ing? maybe this is not the site for me
My point is "There are other sites where WE (non-sub guys) can participate in tournaments". So, why I am still here? I've assummed this was a good site for playing chess both subs & non-subs. Well, now I consider we are not welcome here, then I'm going to leave you. Bye bye, I see you in another life... maybe...
I was happy to play here without being a sub, because I was playing in tournaments at gameknot, where one doesn't have to be a sub to participate. Then I got banned there because I used adblock. What a pitty. Now I've started considering a subscription here, though I really don't want to pay 30 bucks. But, maybe, one day that'll happen.
Here, here. See this thread: http://www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=86152
I took over the logistics of that tournament after the organizer vanished, but I've enjoyed hosting it. Two big problems with this non-sub tournament were the participants' tendency to disappear (we had a 50% attrition rate) and the lengthy rounds. The next tournament will have to be shorter to keep everyone together (we're going on eight months now, and we've just now reached the final round).
Send me a message if you'd like a new nonsubscriber tournament, and if enough people are interested, I'll organize another tournament, three rounds and a final.

Why not be a sub?
Non subs are considered sub standard on this site. The standard of subs are much higher.
If you are a sub then you'll have tons of tournaments.
But...there ARE kids on this site, there ARE people who enjoy a game of chess but aren't quite good at it ( i haven't met someone to pay for beeing beaten) and they have maners (unlike others!)
P.S.: check the first 100 players for non-sub standard
EDIT : check nº 1 and don't be so quick to judge!
