The horde - 36 white pawns - vs black!

Introduction

36 white Pawns face-off against a regularly positioned black opponent in this asymmetrical variant. White must checkmate to win, Black must capture all Pawns in the horde to win.

Starting Position

White starts with the first 4 and half ranks populated by just pawns.
Board is interactive - make a move

Moves of the Pieces

White Pawns on the first and second ranks can advance two squares on their first movement.

Rank 1 and 2 white Pawns can advance 2 squares on first movement.
Board is interactive - make a move

With the exception of modified En Passant rules, all pieces move as in Standard Chess.

Pawn promotion rules remains the same as Standard Chess.

Castling

Black can castle as normal.

En passant rules remains the same as Standard Chess.

Check and Checkmate

Black is obviously unable to deliver a checkmate, but normal check and checkmate rules apply for White.

Stalemate conditions remain the same as Standard Chess.

Draw conditions remain the same as Standard Chess.

Winning

The objective is different for White and Black :

  • White must checkmate Black
  • Black must capture every White piece, including any promoted Pawns.
  • Some chess variants are currently playable live and all will soon be available to play as daily/correspondence chess.
