It appears to me it is. Lemondrop mentioned this some months ago.

the oracle predicted misfortune for the clan forum
a headless dragon hovers
@wycombe-al saidIt's not visible enough. I subscribed to play in tournaments. I only stumbled on the clan system when I looked for leagues and teams.
the clan system is dying, people are more interested in tournaments, clubs and posting rubbish on the general forum
I joined this site to learn the game. In the Misfits, experienced players were willing to teach me and one of their members puts tutorials in the forum from time to time. Maybe clans have to be more imaginative in what they can offer.
@Relentless-Red i think also there are too many clans, maybe clan divisions would work with promotion and relegation each year and play off places, say 20 clans in each division
@wycombe-al saidMakes good sense. With the top twenty very visible. Maybe to one side when you see the tournaments listed or the list of public forums. Like the way the chess blog appears over the forum list. Have a banner that shows the top three each week or some such thing.

Maybe disband clans that are inactive for over two years. Maybe give them a month to sort it out or get disbanded??
@relentless-red saidI like this idea!

@c-i-v saidThere was a vote on that back some time ago to separate the Clan Ratings from other ratings and it was Voted Down.
A separate clan rating is the only thing that will save the clan feature.
Chess rating. Club rating.
Why no clan rating?
I would say we all know the reasons why.

@wycombe-al saidThat was proposed back in 2017.
@C-I-V clan rating a good idea in my opinion
The beta version that Russ presented back then was wrong in concept.
That was to assign a rating to clans which never worked.
What we wanted was to have a separate rating for players for clan games.
But that would have meant building a new index for each player, which meant a database change, which is usually considerable IT work from my experience.
Another problem with clan rating for players is transition associated with implementation.
What will be the start clan rating for each player on day 1 ??
- 1200 like a new member ? Which will be chaotic.
- clan rating = site rating ? Which will also be chaotic as there will be a stampede by players to manipulate their ratings (sandbag) ahead of day one.
I guess we are stuck with the goodwill aspect of the clan feature.
Counting on players to play fair. And police the system when they don't.
