On heavy rotation here at the moment (sorry, albums not tracks):
Laetitia Sadier (used to be in Stereolab, Monade) The Trip
Gold Panda (hotly tipped electronica chap - lots of Four Tet, maybe a bit of Daft Punk on the dancier numbers) Lucky Shiner
Clogs (some of the people from The National making the most peculiar folk-esque sound, way better than The National) The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton
Atone (first big release from interesting instrumentalists) Cet Apres-Midi la
Po' Girl (featuring an ex-member of The Be Good Tanyas) Deer in the Night - while I wait for the new one to come out.
The post that was quoted here has been removedIt's pretty different to both Stereolab and Monade, to my mind. It's all a bit less direct and self-consciously wacky, and the arrangements more hazy, but also more rich (if that makes sense). In fact, the arrangements fade somewhat, allowing Sadier's voice to dominate, and it's dominated by ballad-esque numbers. It's also much more emotional.
If you like Sadier's voice - and who doesn't? - it's totally worth a listen.
Originally posted by DrKFI like it to a certain degree, but it somehow leaves me feeling a little empty - the kind of feeling I get listening to a lot of recent ECM releases, a triumph of style over substance. Just seems that the electronics in it are something of an afterthought. Or maybe I just have an aversion to the strings. Either way, listen to it and form your own opinion - mine counts for nothing.
Any good? It's been on my list for a while...
Anyway, currently listening to Philip Jeck - An Ark for the Listener.
