Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham; both US republican senators, have appeared on TV declaring that they are going to do everything to stop impeachment of the US president.
Lindsay doesn’t want any witnesses called, just to get it over as fast as possible for the American people.
Mitch has said that he’ll toe the white house line on the matter.

Now, these senators are basically part if the jury in the up- and coming impeachment trial.
And we all know juries are supposed to be objective and look at facts.

How is this happening?
Why isn’t anybody pulling them up on this?

I think the US system is complete madness.

There are many things wrong with the US system, but what's happening here is similar to what would happen if the opposition filed a motion of no confidence in most working political systems.

@shavixmir

It is clear that a trial in the Senate, if it even comes to that, is not going to be impartial. However, it may not get that far; the Senate majority leader has already stated that we will try to, in effect, declare a mistrial, to have the charges dismissed without hearing the witnesses or reading the charges.

What the Republican Senators fail to realize here is that they are voting not only on whether this particular president stays in office until 2020, but whether any future Senate ever gets a future president out of office.

I would ask Republican Senators to consider this: if Trump gets away with this, by a trial not taking place (charges dismissed), then future presidents (some of whom will not be Republicans) will be emboldened to engage foreign powers to 'fix' American elections with a precedent of presumed impunity, and future Senates will look back on this one with a sense of having been emasculated.

Totally agree. But dont forget there were no defense witnesses allowed while this was being heard in Congress. Hardly a fair proceding in itself.

Do we really need to pretend that impeachment is not a political process?

Why bother? Really.

Ummm...this is not a legal trial...it is a political trial. How soon you forget the schitt/nodler fiasco.

Other jurors include Senators Klobuchar, Booker, Bennet, Sanders, Warren, all current Dem candidates for POTUS. How impartial do you think they are?

The FISA warrant started all this. How fair was that Shav? We learn that it had a myriad of falsehoods as Comey later distanced himself from it as if to say it was not really his fault and none of it was politically motivated. Comey says this even though we later learned that if it had not been for that fake FISA warrant, this whole process would never have started in the first place?

To top it all off, we learn that two FBI agents were having an adulterous relationship together as they text each other how much they hate Trump and how much they need to stop him as they were the foot soldiers in this witch hunt?

Really?

What do you mean 'allowed'? Trump REFUSED to allow ANYONE in or near the WH to testify for or against. But that doesn't stop the dog and pony show from the republicans from pushing bullshyte again.

It is still a trial and the jury of senators are supposed to be independent but you know good and well they are voting to acquit Trump without even a pretense of an impartial trial.

How many were independent when they voted for or against Obamacare?

Hmm?

Now we learn that it was all crap and we need a new health care plan?

Really?

You don't think Sanders, Booker, Klobuchar and Warren are keeping an open mind and have already thought about whether to remove Trump???

You jaded person, you!

To be fair, given the rampant abuse of office and criminal activity of Donald Trump, it would likely result in unanimous backing for his removal from his own party if something similar happened in any working political system around the globe.

The key word you inserted there was "Working' Something we don't have in the US. It is our tribe V their tribe here. We did that before, it was called the Civil War. So that is still going on today, the Civil war Part Deux.

I think I see...NOW you want to play fair. The constitution gives the senate the SOLE power to prosecute or not prosecute. The republicans hold the majority..it is whatever they say it is...that is what the constitution says. houndog.
