@deepthought saidOh look, the essential Nazi.
There's a bit of a relevance problem with that comparison.
Well if the restaurant in question is someone's life's blood that feeds their family, then it is essential to them, isn't it.
@kazetnagorra said*check*
Are you saying people should delay having abortions?
Edit actually I’d say it was *checkmate*

@whodey saidUnless your healthcare system has been rendered completely inoperable by the virus ( but it’s just the flu right ) then it’s non essential surgeries that are being delayed for the protection of patient.

People all over the world are being denied surgeries due to the fact that they may not be "essential", yet abortions are?
Obviously urgent or time sensitive procedures have to be carried out. You cannot put a gestation on pause any more than you tell a serious RTA or shooting victim to go nome and wait for an appointment.
Stop being a silly billy.
@whodey saidHave a word with your President, people should be getting furloughed ( paid 80% of their average income ) not left to rot.

It’s not an easy task for any government and some people will struggle and lose income but other countries have, and are managing to do it.

@deepthought saidHe knows, but they are pro Choice and female so them dying would be a bonus for any right wing 💩
Given that pregnancy affects the pregnant woman's immune system there is clear cause under section 1c of Abortion Act 1967 (UK) to proceed with an abortion [1]. The normal grounds for abortion in the UK are under section 1a. I realize that US law is different, however, being pregnant involves immunocompromise for the the woman and so you are on lethal territory pursuing this argument at this time.

@whodey saidSince the scope of the word "essential" had been "medically essential" in this thread up until this point it is not a relevant comparison. I don't know about the US but in the UK businesses are being compensated for costs connected with being closed. Most restaurants here are running take-away services. Either way it is a temporary situation. An unwanted pregnancy is not a situation that will wait.

That surgery is being cancelled and delayed because ICU beds are being used up by covid-19 patients is an argument for continuing the lock down. It is not an argument for closing the clinics, since, as far as I know, they don't have ICU capability. Abortion clinics do not interfere with non-essential or essential surgery being postponed.

@earl-of-trumps saidYou sound like a slavish my president right or wrong, do you think that’s good form, and how inaccurate do you think my opinion of whodey and his fellow travellers is, you know full well he would force every woman to carry every ball of cells to term.
you sound like a reconstituted version of D64. bad form, man

@kevcvs57 saidKev, this is not a philosophical debate about abortion.
You sound like a slavish my president right or wrong, do you think that’s good form, and how inaccurate do you think my opinion of whodey and his fellow travellers is, you know full well he would force every woman to carry every ball of cells to term.
you made the claim that right wingers (I am conservative) take a relish in certain peoples' deaths.
C'mon, dude.
That's very similar to D64 claiming that right-wingers are hoping more Chinese people die of CB19. Pure rubbish. A damnable, unjust slur.
I'm surprised that when you are called out on it you actually try to defend.
