As already pointed out, 2020 was the most violent year of the war and the most militarily successful for the Taliban. The idea that the Taliban respected Trump's "manliness" that you right wingers think he had is ridiculous.

No Americans are going to be "abandoned" though right wingers seem to be praying that some will be killed or taken captive.
Oh, I am so angry that you imply we are praying for that. Now I know how liberals feel 24/7! Angry!

When the shouting and screaming and media BS is over, a fair assessment of this evacuation will be it was the most successful since Dunkirk.
You're on. You suggest it will run smoothly, that the Americans will be out of danger.

Are you sure you want to use Dunkirk as a comparison?
If I didn’t know you were a steadfast Dem I’d have assumed you were being sardonically sarcastic.
Sorry Marauder, but you see now how perturbing it is when an MGHRN type does not get the issue of a post, maybe even a simple 'between the lines'.....
Clueless. Get ready for a trumpism.

No it bloody won’t.

They sold Dunkirk as a victory. There’s no way in hell this is gonna get smothered in that gravy.
300.000 troops were evacuated whilst being attacked by the Nazis… trained soldiers, high on meth and with a couple of the best generals the world has ever known.
The Taliban are moronic religious zealots.

The evacuation of the Titanic was better bloody executed…

Exactly what is my type ?
Other than the fact that I repeatedly label you as having the "worldview of an ideological simpleton".
btw, have you been able to point out Afghanistan on a map without the help of Google ?

During war you pay spies who provide reliable information.
The character of the spy or his past is irrelevant.
So like I said...they did it for money and they could be bad people.
They also could have worked both sides.
They also could be holding a grudge or whatever and attack the USA later.

I'm all for using informants in war but I'm against giving them sanctuary afterwards.
They are snitches after all and they can be bought.
Did you feel this same way about all the Germans, Japanese, and Italian informants, and others, that came to the USA after world war two?; or did you feel the same about all the ones already living here during the war? Or was it just the Japanese that you did not trust?

I did say "since Dunkirk" but I'll stick with my assessment.

More than 100,000 have been evacuated already by the US and other countries from Kabul Airport with minimal losses until the suicide bombings today. Considering the situation in the country, a fair assessment would be that is a remarkable achievement.

We are not being driven out of Afghanistan by the taliban; we are pulling out of Afghanistan; and, that decision is mostly due to Biden and His administration. The US military was never in danger of being overtaken by the taliban. We left.

I'll admit it is ugly. We should have never been there in the first place. When we pulled out of Vietnam, the North Vietnamese went on a murder rampage; and, they say that they murdered well over 1 million people within 30 days. Let's hope that does not happen here.
No matter when we pull out, the enemy is going to be right there to take over.
... before you evacuated the citizens and allies...yes you are right. They are still evacuating the citizens and allies. Yes, things are getting hairy. We still have to wait and see the outcome of all this.

I know this is a favorite right wing talking point, but it is simply false.

The date for full withdrawal of the troops set by Biden was August 31st; a date not yet reached. In mid-August the US had more troops in Afghanistan than they did when Trump left office.

The Taliban have not interfered because it is in their interest that US troops leave Afghanistan just like it is in our interest that they do.

Pentagon: "12,500 people have been evacuated within last 24 hours." [https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/afghanistan-kabul-taliban-us-news-08-27-21/h_f84ec5219eb96ed6cc6cdb4e4401939d]

"As evacuations from Afghanistan approach their final days, the White House says approximately 12,500 people were evacuated in 24 hours."
"From 3:00 a.m. ET Thursday to 3:00 a.m. Friday, approximately 8,500 people were evacuated by the US military, and approximately 4,000 were evacuated via coalition flights, for a total of approximately 12,500 people evacuated.
That brings the total number of people evacuated via US military and coalition flights to 105,000 since August 14, and 110,600 since late July, per the White House."

What is going on over there is changing hour by hour.
