@divegeester saidIt's also reported on the BBC website:
As if to underline Trump’s gaff about there being airports in the American war of Independence, a leaked memo details a UK ambassador to US calling Trump 'incompetent and inept'.

You just can't make up something that stupid.

@kquinn909 saidLoads of politicians have given long speeches to millions, yet extremely few have made errors as embarrassing as this one. The emperor really does not have clothes.

@kquinn909 saidWhile in the grip of Alzheimer's disease Ronald Reagan managed to get through his speeches without saying anything that daft. When he was put on the spot by a journalist after signing the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (I think, it was the one where Gorbachev was racing him to sign the documents), who asked about his "Evil Empire" statement, he managed to think of something appropriate to say - as I remember something to the effect of "That was in another time.". Trump is doing a worse job than someone who was suffering from a degenerative brain disease.

@deepthought saidAfter the dissolution of the USSR, there were bumper stickers in this country saying, "Evil Empires: 1 down, 1 to go".

@kazetnagorra saidlol, it was a major gaffe, to be sure, I'm sure he meant seaports. But it is nothing in comparison to the many things Biden has said while VP, like the time Biden introduced an army vet on stage. The man was a quadriplegic and in wheelchair. People cheered for him and Biden actually asked the man to stand up and take a bow. Doh. That guy is the most brainless major Pol I ever saw.

@deepthought saidTrump, of course, withdrew the US from the INF treaty for dubious reasons proving your point i.e. " Trump is doing a worse job than someone who was suffering from a degenerative brain disease."

The sad thing is the effect all this has on the reputation of the US around the world. Seen by people who actually READ, even Russians or Syrians or Irish knew history better than Trump.
He is single-handedly reducing the US to a laughing stock. And it will be a long time and maybe NEVER, no matter WHO succeeds him as POTUS whether we get back to the worldly influence we used to enjoy.
Who in the HELL is ever going to trust the US now?
