@vivify saidyou didnt answer my question.
We're talking about fictional children's books, and my post was about conservative hypocrisy regarding that matter. Conservatives thought it was insane to pull children's books (failing to mention the racist caricatures) and less than a year later, conservatives defend book burning.

...[text shortened]... euss books) has a piece showing conservatives are on the wrong side of history, you know you f'd up.
@mott-the-hoople saidBecause your question had nothing to do with the post you replied to.
you didnt answer my question.
But to answer your question: parents should have some limited say in what their children are taught. Key word being "limited".
@mott-the-hoople saidHow is what is taught in public schools financed by tax dollars "none of my business"?
“ Teaching a kid the world was created 6000 years ago would be educational malpractice even if the majority of parents in a district wanted them taught such foolishness.”
dont just claim it, prove it!
but at any rate, its THEIR children, none of your business
@mott-the-hoople saidYou don't make any sense. You claimed "liberals don't believe in freedom of speech" presumably because they utilize their freedom of speech to say that book burnings are loony.
my saying you are wrong is freedom of speech. These people have a RIGHT to do this. You have the freedom to say they are wrong, I have the freedom to say you are wrong…that is where we are at, please explain what is contradictory?
You don't see how that is self-contradictory?
@no1marauder saidwhat function supported by tax dollars do you have input on?
How is what is taught in public schools financed by tax dollars "none of my business"?
@mott-the-hoople saidAll of them.
what function supported by tax dollars do you have input on?
@mott-the-hoople saidCurrently, schools boards have that right, which was derived from the government, run by officials elected by the people.
who has a right to limit this and where is that right derived from?
The people elect officials with the assumption that facts will guide their decisions, not partisan politics. Imagine a school board that adopts the Muslim view of creationism; that's would be just as flawed as teaching the Christian one.
@vivify saidthe parents have a right to elect ANYONE they want as a board member. That is the way our system works.

And wow, are you suggesting creation shouldnt be taught? we just remain ignorant?
@sh76 saidSeriously? 8th grade? That's some pretty weak 14-year-old snowflakes you have, there.
They didn't "ban" it. They replaced it with another book in the 8th grade syllabus because they felt it was too intense for 8th graders in some areas, a perfectly reasonable decision.
@mott-the-hoople saidYes. Doesn't mean just "anyone" should be a school board member.

I'm fine with creationism being taught as religion, not as science.
@mott-the-hoople saidWell the NAZIs burned lots of books so according to EoT you are a dyed in the wall socialist. Welcome to the clubhouse.
I dont see any irony at all…I feel everyone is free to burn a book. It is not my place to tell them they cant. It is freedom of speech. But libs are against freedom of speech arent they?
It’s noted that you do not believe in someone else’s right to free speech to criticise a book burning bat 💩crazy god botherer
@shavixmir saidYou think of May 10th 1933, which happened in several German university towns?
My God.
When was that other book burning? I can't remember, sometime in the 30's I believe...
Ach. I'm sure someone from the right will remember. They're forever harping on about them...
A very sad day in our history.
@sh76
Right. 13 year old kids have working brains, there is not THAT much difference between a 13 yo and an 18 yo as far as emotions go.
Banning books is bad PERIOD.
That should be obvious to even conservatives.
A book that says something about race relations, slavery and such should be required reading not burned.
Kids NEED to be shaken up a bit and some ASSSWIPE preacher should keep out of the issue.
The sad part is this kind of BS is contagious and will foment further book burnings.
Sad day AGAIN in America. Lots of sad days here these days.
I think it will be a LONG time before the US resumes world leadership and is a clear indication of the decline of the US as a power.
I'm sure our enemies are dancing in the streets over such disturbing acts but what seemed to be human beings.
