@wildgrass saidI don't know what this means. I have a corporation. I take in refenues, [ay employees and taxes, and go home for the night. Are you suggesting that you are payng something for my coporation? Am I payng something for Your corporation? If I and you are paying for each other's corporations, how about this solution,........... Why don't you and I agree to be self relilant and agree to NOT pay for each other's corporations? Too simple, for you, I fear. You will not see the logic, you see.
While we wait for wajomas brilliant idea to come to fruition (any day now), can we make sure minimum wage is set to a level where we are not paying for the groceries of full time employees at Amazon?
You just do not see logic. Too simple. You will not see the logic.
@wildgrass saidWildgrass...give me a break. What about my analogy of LIVING wage that none of you would answer, because I nailed it. You remember, dont you? One single guy works for $25. He lives on it. Guy next to him, same job, same pay, has 4 children, wife. He CANNOT live on it. How do you apply the living wage concept to this scenario?
Impossible. I guess I've been around too long for your unbridled idealism..
There are real solutions to limiting the slow creep of govt spending, and then there are your ideas you discuss in college poli sci classes that make good essays but are not realistic solutions.
You and the other socialists on this Forum will not answer this puzzle. Show us how you can break out and wrestle with this one.
Overall issue: Is it even possilbe that there can be a living wage that fits all?

Here is an estimate of what it takes to live here in Pennsylvania:
https://livingwage.mit.edu/states/42
Even 25 bucks an hour isn't enough for most folks with kids.
@averagejoe1 saidI hvent answered because I don't have an answer. I can't fix this policy and it seems like you can't either. No real politician is trying to fix it either. Probably it won't be fixed or even addressed in my lifetime. Certainly the republican party isn't capable of fixing anything.

A minimum wage increase is a band aid on an axe wound for sure. But it's better than nothing, because the result is a smaller government.

@sonhouse saidDon't lose me here. My point is the issue of what could be a living wage that would meet the needs of both men. It could be $25 or $55 . The amount is not the issue for purposes of this discussion.

The single guy can live of $X, but the friend doing the same job with a family cannot live on $X.
So if the govt decides to define a living wage (Which is not feasible) it would be a wage that is enough for the family guy, but would be exhorbitant for the single guy.
The store owner would pay each of them the same thing, but it would be MORE than enough for the single guy. The employer is beat out of business, he cannot afford to do it.
Can you define a living wage? No/. So why do people keep talking about it? The answer is that the family guy does not live above his means, and he gets a good paying job.

@wildgrass saidCorrect. Like I just said. It is impossible. So.....WHY does it keep getting brought up. It is a non-starter.

@wildgrass saidNo, it's not 'any day now' that's you being more ridiculous than usual. It's going to take time, because it took time to grow the dependency that we now see, the first step is cut handouts to paid employees, your gripe from the beginning.

That's right, there is no set rate that covers every person in every situation, where the cost of living can vary from one side of a city to the other, where the cost of living varies from county to county, state to state.
@wajoma saidLibs do not realize that a minimum wage is a starting wage to go out into the world. Period. They think that the government needs to step in and tell corps what to pay. Did you see where Biden said yesterday that cookie companies have reduced the amount of cookies in a bag.? They can do anything they want to do. Is it Biden's company? Is it the government's.? Does the company have some duty to the US citizens? Whatever happened to that old adage 'whatever the market will bear'.? Maybe that is a a racist term now. Jesus, why don't you fellers just leave well enough alone. Cookies? Skip the corporation and go home and make your own cookies. Biden is a fool and so are those who listen to him

Joe, keep up. That happened 90 years ago. It already exists. I'd have no issue with your position if the benefits programs did not exist. But they do.
Typical neo-con, you wanna spend govt money that doesn't exist and jack up deficits for your grandkids to pay down just so our corps can add a few cents to their share price.

Oh good lord. You're worse infected than I thought. Most conservative president in a long time takes over US politics, 4 years term, and has an extremely supportive Congress at his side. What does he do? Take a step in the direction as you suggest?
Nope. They went the other way. Increased spending by a lot. Doubled the deficit. Added completely new and permanent benefits programs.
There was one guy. He thought he could chip away at the benefit system by increasing eligibility ages for health care benefits.
He had to resign. That's what we're dealing with. How do we do away with all benefits programs? Not possible, ever. You propose fairy tales.
Maybe an easier pill to swallow would eliminate all the new spending programs that the trump administration started. Farm cash payouts and unneeded military spending.
@wildgrass saidIt's possible because there are countries that don't have a min wage and there are countries that don't give welfare to those in paid employment. Dims, Republicans, the deficit and some pollie got the boot all have no bearing on violating the right of people to engage in the voluntary exchange of value for value.

Reducing spending is a realistic goal. Libs are honestly better at it.

No I do not want to jack up deficits .
I do want government out of our lives, you want them IN your lives. Sickening dependents abound. Can you not take care of yourself and quit interjecting govt into every situation, every premise, every issue? Can you not take care of yourself. Hey, the constitution says for us to have a Supreme court to make decisions,...Yet, you complain the govt's court needs to make rulings that you like. Sickening.
