@Duchess64
Better would have been to use Nukes on the Chinese Army during the Korean War.
But the US is the US and we avoided using nukes.
@Duchess64
South Korea has US troops.
I like your argument, better to be a slave than to be killed. It is the a great motto to live by. It is the only way to escape death by the Chinese I suppose. But then, there are people willing to die for freedom.
@eladar saidI wonder whether Taiwan already has sufficient electronic deterrents, e.g., the ability to shut down infrastructure on the mainland, or the ability to take control of whatever naval vessels and aircraft the PRC might deploy.
Taiwan having nukes would simply protect Taiwan from being invaded.
@kevin-eleven saidThat would be nice. I doubt the anyone in the rest of the world will help them defend themselves.

The post that was quoted here has been removedSince you brought it up, it is true that a major motivation behind China's attack on the Soviets was international prestige. China does a lot of what it does for such prestige.
Once Stalin's armored columns threatened China's industrial centers Mao quickly backed down. He didn't want war. He just wanted to be able to say that China was able to attack and defeat the Soviets on the battlefield.
