I call christmas music gay all the time.
The new american usage of the word fag makes asking if you can "bum a fag" (have a cigarette) hilarious.
I have similar concerns about words like "progress" being abused to mean "we can do what we like, so there"
You are bound to your fellow beings no end. We are no longer bound to our fellow beings except by will. Many of us are choosing to ignore the dictum.
I do agree that it is wise to travel in packs, but the need to comply to what others "want" is silly. I can truly do what I like. And I like to be kind to others, to share what little wealth I have with wounded soldiers and make my kids work for their money.
This is the same argument as Gun Control. I can do as I please, but so can a killer who needs some money. Until we as a society realize that we can't control the evilness, don't even think about the tools. Until we can control the greediness and laziness, don't even think of restricting the tools of modern civilization.
That's kind of abstract and boils down to "Don't mess with Texas!" for all with a short attention span. I'm an honorary Texan.

I don't see the problem with chips. Saves hassle on passports and ID and stuff. I don't say that as a European, I think most Europeans would be adamantly opposed. Just having to have biometric data on our passports due to US paranoia has really pissed off a lot of us, so you can imagine what a request for a subdermal chip would face. I just don't care if someone knows my every move, I'd prefer if they were open about it though.
your inflatable mattress, would you. The though of it just makes my head cave in.

People are put out of work and home, and even fight and die for "progress". It just seems that people are bending over backwards to ensure we have more stuff, without regard to the people trampled on in the process.

Historically it's an ideologue of western imperialism and colonialism, something now wielded by corporations.
edit: Doesn't it occur to you that if people will do what they like, that one of those things is not standing for destructive exploitation of people and the environment? Some people do care about these things, if they didn't, the damage done would go from pretty bad to ridiculous.

security badges some business use to know who comes and goes
within their property at certain points as people pass through scanners.
Soon if they don’t have the ability already be able to scan the
streets and see who is there by items like our drivers licenses or
cell phones, or scan buildings just like they wave a wand over your
food at the store or alert the store when someone is taking an item
away without paying for it. People are buying their own GPS freely to
get the ability to map their own location, with communication the way
it is people are paying for the privilege to let others know their
comings and going. If a government wants to do something with that
information a war on terror seems to be the perfect back drop for it.
