I just heard Dennis Kucinch talk about why he changed his vote to yes.
Strangely enough he says, After talking with the President, Nancy Pelosi and my wife, I have decided to change my vote to yes..
ok, what is missing, that would help me understand this, is if he had said, after I listened to the people in Ohio, I have decided to vote in favor of the bill.
Pelosi doesn't live in Ohio, nor does Obama. What do the people from Ohio think, Mr. Kucinch? More later.

Originally posted by Hugh GlassKucinich doesn't represent all of Ohio. He represents the 10th district, which is mainly the western half of Cleveland. These are the people he needs to answer to, and these are people who are much more liberal than the rest of the state.

http://kucinich.us/Ohio,
The main issue for most of Kucinich's constituents probably is that the current healthcare reform doesn't go nearly far enough. That had been Kucinich's reason for opposing it up until now. Pelosi (and other Dems) probably convinced him that half a loaf is better than none.
I do hope there was no Ben Nelson type scheme involved to "Make Kucinich Rich".

Corruption, graft and special interest deals? What exactly are you accusing Kucinch of? I'm curious.
I just thought his wording of why he changed his vote seemed odd. after talking with president Obama, Pelosi, and my wife...... he changed his mind. What about mention of those who voted for him? Did he stand up for their wants?
I suppose he spoke the truth though. Maybe caved in. Who knows
Originally posted by Hugh GlassYes. Pretty much explicitly. That's why I enquired.

It's a given, surely, bearing in mind Kucinch's atypical reputation as a 'man of his constituency', in the U.K.'s Tony Benn mould.
Also, who knows, perhaps he declined to gloat out of respect for those he represents who disagree with him and the majority of voters in his District.

Come to my district in Cleveland and you will understand.
The people of Ohio's 10th district have been hard hit by an economy where wealth has accelerated upwards through plant closings, massive unemployment, small business failings, lack of access to credit, foreclosures and the high cost of health care and limited access to care. I take my responsibilities to the people of my district personally. The focus of my district office is constituent service, which more often than not involves social work to help people survive economic perils. It also involves intervening with insurance companies.
Kuchinich, like many progressives, would like a better bill which would at minimum include a public option. But this is what is on the table and to reject it would mean that health care reform of any sort is unlikely for years. The people without health insurance and the country can't afford to wait any longer.
Originally posted by no1marauderSo, his original NO vote went against the will of the people in his district, either way, he flopped.

Originally posted by Hugh GlassProbably not; it's quite likely the majority of people in his district feel the same way he does i.e. that a bill with a strong public option would be preferable to this one but that this one is preferable to the status quo. If they feel differently, there's an election in November.
