@no1marauder
How do you see the 9th Amendment in this? (Since people keep posting -- elsewhere -- that neither abortion nor a right to "privacy" are enumerated? Lots of others that aren't as well.) Thanks.
@shavixmir saidJoe Biden said several years ago that he was against abortion.
Yes. They lied.
Was he lying then, or is he lying now? You know, we all need a Minister of Truth on the Forum. Who do you think it should be? So many qualified prospects.
@averagejoe1 saidPersonal opposition to abortion doesn't mean one supports the government interfering in a woman's reproductive decisions and bodily sovereignty.

And right wingers claim to be anti-big government!
@vistesd2 saidThat's a bit complex and I'd prefer to read Alioto's whole draft before answering it. From the excerpts I've seen, he seems to think that repeated violations of a right by legislative bodies means that right never existed in the first place.

Needless to say, that is hardly consistent with the Founders and Framers Natural Rights philosophy which is clearly spelled out in the Ninth Amendment i.e. the Constitution is not a rights creating document and the People would have the same rights whether it was ever written or not and legislatures cannot decide what is or isn't a right.
@vivify saidAnd then, the Republican right is busy clutching their pearls at the news of this leak.
That's an excellent point. And if true, this means SCOTUS is violating its commitment to neutrality.
The whole point of life appointments is to not be affected by politics; the thousands of texts from Clarence Thomas' rabidly pro-Trump wife prove this is not the case, as he was the only Justice to object to SCOTUS rejecting Trump's request to withhold documents form Jan ...[text shortened]... months to help their elections chances...we are at a constitutional crisis.
The U.S. is fukked.
“This is an insurrection by a person who is paid for by the taxpayers and who has a duty under his particular job and employment to keep his mouth shut, and he didn’t do it,” Huckabee continued. “So it’s an egregious form, if you will, of insurrection, and I hope that everyone will use that term, because if what happened Jan. 6 was an insurrection, this absolutely is an insurrection.” -- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee
@averagejoe1 saidJust because Biden may have lied, says nothing about the people this thread is about.

Just because Hitler was a bastard, doesn’f mean you aren’t.
@no1marauder saidJesus, Marauder. You stoop to this Suzy/Jimmm reasoning . I figured you a bit of a better debater than that.
Personal opposition to abortion doesn't mean one supports the government interfering in a woman's reproductive decisions and bodily sovereignty.
And right wingers claim to be anti-big government!
So, this is your reasoning, but you will not 'reason' in this fashion when Trump (sorry to mention Trump, begin the good debater that I am....)...when Trump might say something now that may be a bit personal from what he may have said before.
You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Really weak stuff.
And did you catch Suzy saying, in response to Some People Work Harder Than Others, suggesting that the bulk of rich people are OLD, when they HAVE to be old if they have been Working Hard, and making (investing) money for 50 years. One cannot get rich if they are Of Culture, robbing stores at the mall.
I just don't get you two. You 2 are not even slippery, you show your lack of understanding, for the world to see. You can quote your 'sources' all day long, but in the end,, you and I see the world in an extremely different prism. I see more of 'the street', if you get my drift.
@averagejoe1 saidI have no idea what most of this raving has to do with the subject at hand, so I'll ignore it.

Biden's position is quite understandable esp. for a practicing Catholic.
Since you mention Trump, I don't really believe he has any sincere beliefs except of his own greatness. Of course, for years he declared "no one is more pro-choice than I am" before deciding he wanted to be a Republican politician and then he pretended to be rabidly antiabortion. Anything to reel in the suckers like you.
@no1marauder saidBiden's catholicism is irrelevant and you know it. He said one thing, years ago, and does a 180 today. Color it any way you'd like. And this is not about Trump, this about your saying Biden can be a hypocrite, but Trump cannot. Whatever. Suzianne would give you an A to frame on the wall!

@averagejoe1 saidThere is no "hypocrisy" in Biden's position. One can personally believe something is immoral without believing the State should criminalize it. I think adultery is immoral, but don't believe the State should stone to death those who do it.

Sorry if that distinction is too difficult for you to grasp.
@ThatsNotMyGum
It may be nothing to you but some of those states are making anti abortion laws that makes it illegal to even have abortions from the result of rape or incest or even if there is clear danger to the life of the mother. These are monstrous laws only showing republicans care about one thing and one thing ONLY, GAINING POWER and keeping it.
This is minority rule and SCOTUS is overtly political now with the 3 Trump creeps now in.
