That word, "expectations"...I disagree that it's an expectation that women be sexy news anchors, or sexy in most professional fields. Again, look at Van Sustren (still can't spell it) who has no sex appeal at all. Same for the great Margaret Thatcher, Ellen Degeneres, and Hillary "pants suit" Clinton. True, sex sppeal gives one an advantage in any field, ...[text shortened]... on with others trying to get their spots, that makes it seem like their own merit isn't enough.

The other women I mentioned are women in the public eye, or directly in front of a camera; they do pretty much the same thing as the Fox News women (communicate with the public) yet don't need to be attractive.

The post that was quoted here has been removed"Women are judged and stereotyped according to their appearances nearly
all the time."
You think that men are not?
"In my childhood, my mother often told me that my physical appearance was about the most practically important fact about me."
Do you think she was wrong? Not ideally, but in reality.

How did it turn out?
Of course going into life with that belief instilled in you might have an effect. (You didn't say whether you bought it.)

For the record, I tend to to say nothing about people's mothers unless they have already brought up the subject themselves, and I didn't think I was violating that precept. I missed the quotation marks.🙂
