I read a history and am curious to know if anyone else believes that the United States (I am only using them for an example) will have a government that becomes so out of touch, useless, etc. that it will be replaced with an emperor.
This has happened to the Romans and French (if my history is not mistaken) and possibly will happen again. I think history repeats itself and that the US (still just using them as an example) will become a country ruled by an emperor. This is not necessarily bad for the Romans were only saved by one man rule (in my opinion).

Barring some sort of planetary collapse that left the world in ruins, no. For too many reasons to list.

It's actually kinda amusing to think about how he tried to change the Constitution so that he could be eligible for a third term, given how low his approval ratings are now. Still, he's managed to damage the Constitution in other ways.

Originally posted by Augustus13To get a Caesar Roman style, we need a talented and charismatic general and a military that values this general more than the Constitution. It could happen, as it could anywhere. Military juntas do exist.

As long as we're prosperous it's unlikely to happen. But there are signs that we may be losing our prosperity.
Unfortunately for such a person, we have a very strong culture of insurrection and rebellion, and are well armed for a citizenry.
I'm in a role playing game in which the game master has decided the USA fractures into city-states ruled by the big cities; southern CA, a Pheonix/Texas alliance, a San Francisco based state, Seattle...basically local corporations became more powerful than the federal government and took over.
Is that a possibility?
Originally posted by PinkFloydYou never know. It would make things tougher for such an American Caesar, but I think many Americans are a little too confident in their ability to keep dictators out of office.
As long as the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution remains in effect, I don't think we will ever have that fear realized. We're a lazy bunch, but we won't put up with an emporer taking over. 😀
You know...the Caesar would be a very popular man.

But the Caesar would possibly have the police on his side...
Bring it on. We love to kill Emperors. One a day would be fine. Next!
GRANNY.
What makes you think we'd be macho enough to kill the ultimate gangster - the man with the full might of the US military on his side?
