Britain is denfinately overpopulated, but I'd say the situation is worse in any large city, where research has shown a higher incidence of mental disorders such as bulimia. That may be related to the decline of our family structure (thanks to 28 odd years of Thatcherism). I'd say our shameful diet of ready meals and inability to cook meals from fresh is also a factor. Not sure about the inbreeding, it only seems to be a problem in small populations. Everyone is inbred to a degree.

I think there may be some truth to the cliam that "cities cause mental disorder." It may be due to the fact that people feel more anonymous in a crowd and thus, think that they are less likely to get caught if they engage in mischief. It could also just be the sheer frustration of modern city life (traffic jams, high taxes, crime, pollution, population density) that beats people down.

I'm not sure 5 year olds follow debates on global warming, america, israel, or debates over the validity of economic system of the country in which they live. The high rate of phone calls shows British success in trying to combat head on mental health problems in children, and the children responding. Its better than not talking about their problems, creating worse problems for later on in life.

The social fabric of this country has been seriously undermined by 28 years of almost uninterrupted Thatcherism. The children are suffering most because of this.
