Considering the criminal backgrounds of the two deceased, I'd say there was a lot of sympathy for Mr. Horn
due to the "good riddance" factor. If he hadn't shot them, what else would these two wonderful guys have gone on to do later? He saved a lot of future victims by dispatching them.

according to the BBC, the friends of guy that survived being shot by Tony Martin (the farmer) have put a bounty on Tony's head of tens of thousands of pounds.
the govt let the guy that survived out on good behaviour, shortly before they let Tony out.
Tony was burgled several times prior. Had all kinds of traps on his farm. was abiit loony, so he got his sentence reduced on appeal.
