You also have no idea whether someone is truthful when they claim to be 13 in their profile. You aren't in possession of any 'facts' here.
If you take the trouble to check a few profiles you'll find several young teens. 13 & 14 year olds. Very good chess players too. Most of them make good sense in the forums, stand up to arguements well and run rings around some of the adults. They also do it without swearing and have backed away from the forums when the insults and swearing starts. That's a fact...not a silly point.
Originally posted by BigDoggProblemI hear what you are saying but it is a fact that some have profiled as young teens, post logical debates as teens and have enough intelligence to win debates without resorting to foul language.

We should all assume there are children on this site who should not be subjected to obscene language and insults whether spelt d1fferently or not.
I don't buy into your comment that some teens swear so it's okay to swear back. Banter may resort to the use of insults and teasing that's great fun but the words used don't need to be obscene.

'Obscene' language is used by adults in the real world. Teens will learn these words sooner or later. I did not claim that it's ok to swear back because teens swear. If you believe that swearing is morally wrong, then you should follow your own moral code regardless of what others do. I just find it odd that you go so far to 'shelter' teens from 'bad' language when many of them already use it themselves.
Insults are in the eye of the beholder. This is too subjective a standard to be used for moderation. Some people are far too easily insulted.

Maybe if instead of posting in 20 threads you posted in 1 and took the time to read what you were typing people would find you less annoying.

We are all aware of the R13 status of the site but teens are encouraged to participate. There are 13 and 14 years olds in the forums who do not resort to foul language and insults in their debates; all credit to them. They don't need to read sodomy style insults as a substitute for decent debate and or banter.
Sure people of all ages swear these days. As a kid in the sixties we'd get a slap for saying "bloody" and a good hiding for saying "bugger".
For the past 20 or so years the F and S words have crept into general language. The C word gets dropped into adult comedy routines and movies regularly. If society accepts your reasoning then anything goes and standards are out the window.
I try not swear in public because some people are still grossly offended by swearing and profanity. I swear loudly and waaay too often at home.
Of course our kids hear swear words but as a parent of three adults I hope my own kids learned the difference between decent language from foul. Now I try not to swear in front of my young step-son so he will learn a little restraint and a reasonable sense of societal standards.

Get real, man. I'm sure they hear it everyday outside the forums as well. And these sodomy style insults you speak of are relatively few and far between, not like at your local high school.
