@mott-the-hoople saidOne person, one vote.
when will you idiots ever learn the US is not a democracy. Democracies have many faults as our founders rightly wanted to avoid. Mob rule being one.
How can you be against that?
@wildgrass saidSo, OK, you are saying that we ARE a Democracy. Will you and Sue get on the same page, please?
When did we stop teaching civics?
"The US is not a democracy" is a Republican talk show talking point, following decades of their leadership after securing a minority of the vote. Multiple presidencies won with far fewer votes. They're smart, for sure, to convince you we are not a democracy, but we are. It's merely a semantic argument.
Whatever you want to call it, democratic republic or democracy, either way, gerrymandering is bad for it.
She says that to BE a democracy, we must have a clear 'one person, one vote' situation, which we do not.
So would you two settle this, and please do it here, not on private messages, so that we can follow the logic.,
@averagejoe1 saidHer and I are on the same page that gerrymandering is bad. Why vote at all if your representative does not represent the community from which he or she was elected?

We can disagree on other things. Not sure what comment you refer to.
@mott-the-hoople saidMost people with a brain call it "majority rule".

You can't have a country ruled by the elite, as much as you want that. This is what Russia is.
Winner-take-all Electoral College voting deprives me of my vote. This is what "mob rule" is.

@wildgrass saidThe 7th post on page 1, she says one person , one vote,,,,,that, without that, we are not a democracy. SO, we do not have that, so, she is saying we are not a democracy.

All I am saying is that you two disagree about our being a democracy. This point is not about gerrymandering.
What say you?

@averagejoe1 saidHere you go, Joe. I gotta get back to work. This will clear it up for you and Mott.

@wildgrass saidWell, I dutifully did as you suggested, got a page with a Ben Franklin caricature, but the page does not answer if you think we are a democracy or not.

It is a simple question, and if you do not square with Suzianne, where does that leave us? This is a debate, after all.
@mott-the-hoople saidI was hoping Sonhouse and Suzie, who might be a bit out of her league, could go at it. WGrass could moderate.
LMFAO...these idiots are arguing the US is a democracy...You just cant make this shyt up
I was impressed with WGrass, who on post 3 above got a bit liberal on us, and veered off about 'gerrymandering', but that is irrelevant to this point, and he seems to have come back to the issue. Very difficult for a liberal. Someone give him a thumb up.
@mott-the-hoople saidDemocracy says something about the voting system. Republic says something about not having a king.
no such thing as a “republic democracy”…how ignorant are you?
It is, to be precise, a liberal representative democracy.
How ignorant are you.
21 Sep 23
@suzianne saidWell, here is one answer, which is the basic sound reasoning that has worked for 240 years until the libs rose out of the swamps which we had hoped Donald would drain.
One person, one vote.
How can you be against that?
The Electoral College reduces potential regional tensions. The Electoral College promotes federalism. The Electoral College recognizes the importance of individual states. It maintains a formal federal structure of government while preserving political power within the states.""
How could you be against this?? Like, would you have the same answer if you lived in Wyoming?
21 Sep 23
@AverageJoe1
After I posted that , I looked back at the words 'regional tension'. One of the weapons of liberals in this march to take over is to create tension. The signs, the nasty clothes, in your face, taking over the streets when I am trying to go to the bank to make a deposit.... Just turmoil, tension.
So, to lose the EC would lead to tension.....which is what Suzianne wants, in addition to wanting other peoples' stuff. But only a 'fair' share, is that right? Just how much of my stuff, that should be given to you, is fair? This question is NEVER answered.

@averagejoe1 saidIt's for children Joe. To teach about how democracy works. You and Mott might learn something about what government is and what words mean.

@averagejoe1 saidYour intellectual dishonesty is duly noted.
I'm just trying to learn from you fellers. I asked this question on google, and no where did it mention your premise suggesting countries that have mob rule.
Does any country have Mob Rule .
@averagejoe1 saidSo, which is it?
The Electoral College promotes federalism. The Electoral College recognizes the importance of individual states.
And all Donald did was create a new swamp. Duh.
