I don't like guns, but if I had to carry one, I'd go with a Colt Gold Cup (.45 auto) excellent combination of accuracy and power.😏

As far as a firearm taking wear I suggest you take care of it. Learn how and when to oil and clean it. Clean a new firearm before you fire it. A new firearm comes with a coating of grease in the barrel. Firing a firearm with oil or grease in the barrel could cause ringing or rippling in the bore. This damage is permanent.
