the poor guy married for love and love made him forget the little piece of paper: the prenup. it really pisses me off when a woman(and nowadays men too) marry someone, and then divorce and get half the assets even though they didn't brought anything into the marriage.
i am dirt poor so i wouldn't have anything to prenup about. but still, as Chris Rock sa ...[text shortened]... conditions. but if the spouse divorces you and there is no piece of paper, then you are toast

on that subject, it is ok for the guy to pay, because he is shopping for what the woman is selling.
If he likes the shop and the women likes to sell, then why not !!!
Personally, I never pay for it ....well only in terms of my soul and the grieve that goes long with seeing someone, sometimes....
the first date is an interview opportunity the woman is offering out of the goodness of her heart. so it is reasonable that the man should pay.
the second date is the probation period(the third date too if the woman is super high quality) so it is reasonable that the guy should pay too.
anything after that it is separate checks.(but the guy still has to open the door for the woman)

What I like is the, I'm paying my way argument, but then never pays for anything......
Or the "because you have sex with me", you have to pay for everything....sounds strangely like they are selling something.. ; )

A little chivalry on your part might do you good. It certainly doesn't hurt.
In general, if a date was fun and I had a great time I don't mind paying at all. It is not intended as a bribe to get someone into bed either. In fact anybody who goes on a date solely in the hope of getting laid deserves to pay for a meal, her cab and his own to his sad empty cold bed.
If people go on too many dates where they feel resentful about paying, then they should just be more discerning about who they ask to dinner or drinks.

I tend to agree with you on the subject of the thread. It's actually a bit condescending towards women to say that you would never hit them under any circumstances.
Its a bit like saying "women and children first" in a disaster. I understand the children part, but why women first?
