I'm just trying to be nuanced about the issue, as well as non-judgmental. Call me post-modern DSR, if you will.

Hey, we're laggards when it comes to depravity. Last time I checked, we didn't have any Internet cannibals either, like you do in refined places such as Germany and Austria.

The fact that it isn't happening to you should tell you something.

I'll agree with you on this one, solitary point dsr.

I don't understand the outrage expressed here either. None of the posters here were involved in any way to this. It's just a story on the news. Why people get so upset at stuff like this is odd.

It's almost as if people are upset because they are supposed to be upset. And by yelling and screaming about it they are just re-affirming the collective agreeement on acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.

It's like a mass mutual expression of a pre-determined response to a given set of circumstances.

In short, we all know this is wrong, so why does anyone feel the need to shout?

Simply to express it.

It's like a horror film, only it's much much worse because it's true. You can't tell yourself it's just a story, or that it wouldn't happen in real life.

You miss the point. There is NO NEED to express it. We all know its wrong.

This is like that kids song. "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands....etc"

Except in this case it's, "If you don't like what happened and you know it express your outrage...."

Predictable reactions do not need to be expressed.

What about Elizabeths 6 siblings didn't they wonder why they hadn't seen their sister?
The cellar was actually at another residence. His wife thought that the daughter had been kidnapped when she was 11 and never returned.

I should have worded it more clearly- I found it ridiculous that out of all the crimes committed, he simply referred to burning the body.

Insightful.

To which point(s) do you disagree? If it's just to my last point about predictable responses do not need to be expressed, then ok, have your say, tell us all how bad and a jerk this guys was.

Now, if you've posted your "reaction" to this guy's actions, what are we supposed to do? Shall we all nod and chime in with our comments about how much of a jerk this guy was? Ok, but what is the point? Just to re-affirm that we all have the same moral and values system?

Is that really necessary? Do your morals and values really need to be validated by everyone else? Or are you just trying to make sure that everyone else agrees with your morals and values....as if you are saying, "I'm upset, is anyone else upset at this? ok, you are, you too? ok good. So we're all in agreement then that this was a bad thing? Ok, now we can move on with our lives."

Is that how it goes?
