How can this have happened? It's hard for me to understand how the Mum didn't question her husband.

Maybe neighbours need to be a little nosier and notice things right under their noses.
maybe society has become a little inward, people are staying in, watching tv and ignoring their neighbours.
Maybe if we just brush this under the carpet this will happen again.

Three years ago I phoned the social services to report something about a boy in my childs class who had said something to me about his home life that scared me. If he'd said it to you you'd have thought calling the social was gossiping wouldn't you?

If someone had raised a concern about this family perhaps this wouldn't have happened. If you saw something that bugged you and maybe you didn't know why it bugged you but it stuck in your mind like a shoe in a wood or something would you ignore it?

The problem for me, is the question on hand is too vague with
no clear set terms of reference.
"Thing like this" : What things are we talking about ?
Could it be things that are similar in nature that has essentially
a similar result ?
So if you ask me, fellow posters, are you all busy using fuzzy logic
in trying to answer a fuzzy question 😀
