I'm not saying that the women's movement was a major factor in people becoming reliant on the government.
The problem I see is that in some people's minds, the term "reliant on the government" has a pejorative, subordinating tone that "making constitutional use of the democratic process" does not. The thread title projects that tone.

Under the latter term, saying that the woman's movement was reliant in part on making constitutional use of the democratic process, is not pejorative.

You can believe that using your right to vote to take money from others and direct it at yourself is a good thing. I believe it is evil and can only lead to destruction.

There is no overriding principal here. I just agree more with whodey's position than yours, in this case.
But Whodey's position in the post on which I made my comment was irrational and absurd, possibly written while drunk. I have to warn you that you may have to account to the Duchess for your willingness to defend such appalling misuse of the English language in addition to a catastrophic collapse of basic logic.

That's quite a shift in the conversation. How does it follow?

People are only able to be allowed to rely on the government if they vote themselves money. You think it is fine because it is democratic.

I think what I said is non-judgmental in terms the process being evil and leading to destruction. Constitutions can have good and bad provisions and people can vote for good and evil things democratically.

If democracy is "evil", what's your alternative?

I didn't say democracy is evil. I said using the power of government to take money from others to give it to yourself is evil.

So do you think it is evil for elected officials to be paid a salary by legislating taxation of the electorate?

OK Gotcha. Now we're just talking about the price.

Yep. There is a reasonable rate of pay for service. There is no reasonable pay for no work.

The salaries of my state (California) governor and legislators have been cut 23% in the past 4 years. They are still at or near the top in the country, but we are a big complex state and economy, and if a country, would have about the 8th highest GDP in the world, bigger than Russia's in 2012.
