@soothfast saidThis, above, is what soothfast put to me, asked me......
So you don't think the quality of one's lawyer can have an impact on the outcome of a case?
He is suggesting that a defendant in a legal case could lose if he had an average lawyer, when in fact he would more likely win if he has a lawyer of higher 'quality'? Am I right so far, soothfast?
So my answer, (and I do answer, soothfast) is that Trump, for example, can hire the best lawyers but still lose his case.......soooooooooo, what is Soothfast's problem? It certainly goes without saying that a really good lawyer can lose a case, or he can win a case........so what in the hell is your problem?
@no1marauder saidNow you might be thinking that this isn't a serious crime and that surely other people have been let off the hook as well. That's where you'd be wrong.
I've plea bargained literally hundreds of felonies down to misdemeanors and any lawyer who's worked in the Criminal Justice system for any extended period of time has done the same.
Rapper Kodak Black was charged with the same crime of falsifying information on federal forms to buy four firearms at a Miami gun shop in May of 2019. He was sentenced to more than three years in prison stemming from that charge.
And Kodak Black isn't the only one being convicted. In April 2023, a woman in Iowa was sentenced to a year in prison for lying about her address and drug use on Form 4473.
Even more egregious is that just last week, a woman in Virginia was charged with making a false statement on her 4473 because she had previously used marijuana. Important to note Virginia legalized recreational marijuana use two years ago. The Biden DOJ is sending the American people a clear message: "Rules for thee, not for me."

@metal-brain saidI assume the Iowa case you refer to Miracle Star Vaughn. Here's what the DOJ said about her case:
Now you might be thinking that this isn't a serious crime and that surely other people have been let off the hook as well. That's where you'd be wrong.
Rapper Kodak Black was charged with the same crime of falsifying information on federal forms to buy four firearms at a Miami gun shop in May of 2019. He was sentenced to more than three years in prison stemming from t ...[text shortened]...
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/hunter-bidens-plea-reveals-doj-has-double-standard-gun-charges
"According to court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Miracle Star Vaughn, 27, purchased seven handguns from Scheels, in Coralville, over a period of 18 months. During the firearms purchases, Vaughn provided false information regarding her address and her drug use. One of the firearms Vaughn purchased was recovered in Chicago in the possession of Dimione Walker. Walker was a felon prohibited from possessing firearms, and also had a federal warrant for his arrest. One of the other guns Vaughn purchased was recovered in the possession of her significant other and co-defendant, Michael Haythorn, also a felon prohibited from possessing firearms.
At sentencing, the District Court found that when law enforcement confronted her, Vaughn continued to provide false statements."

So Vaughn was purchasing guns for other people, including felons, and then lied about it when confronted by Federal officials. Obviously the practice of "straw purchasing" is more serious than mere denying of drug use and warrants more severe punishment.
@no1marauder saidCase in point; in a rambling speech yesterday " at the Road to Majority conference in Washington, hosted by the right-wing evangelical Faith and Freedom Coalition," he declared:
Because he doesn't listen to them?
"“Whatever documents a president decides to take with him, he has the absolute right to take them,”

This is essentially a confession that his retention of national defense documents and information was willful and deliberate.
@no1marauder saidEvangelicals have a LOT to answer for in this country.

@averagejoe1 saidNo there's not. Stop lying.
There is a group (class) of people who are cool with breaking down our border with Mexico.
@averagejoe1 saidYou clearly have NO idea what 'sovereignty' means.
My my. So wrought. Try this. There is a group (class) of people who are cool with breaking down our border with Mexico. They are letting people come in illegally to our country. Surely you are aware of this. Maybe it is YOU who plays dumb? Whew
So, it is OK for Sue to render that particular sovereignty to be nothing. Then why do the ladies get this 'sovereignt ...[text shortened]... want a sovereign border. Go for it and defend her, which means you don't either.
AvJoe spoke!
The border is a fact of life. No one wants to 'dismantle' it or even 'open' it. There are numerous federal agencies tasked with ensuring it stays in place. You're just fear-mongering, as usual.
How can a border be sovereign?
@averagejoe1 saidAs you blindly deny all the lying, fear-mongering, misrepresentation, gullibility and Trump-worship of the Republican Party.
It is quite difficult to rationalize a person, Marauder, who bespeaks the law, ad nausea, with maybe a legal background, maybe not, but blindly denies all that is going on, not unlike Sonhouse’s rants when talking about Trump …..a pure one-way street for the both of them.
We just don't give a crap about Hunter Biden. Neither should you.
Trump, on the other hand, should be jailed for multiple offenses, but mainly for his fraud and scamming of rank-and-file Republicans. He's nothing but a con man, and should be jailed to protect the public. Maybe fitted with a mask, Hannibal Lector style, so he can't poison everyone's ears.
Your party should have taken the high road at the first impeachment and told your Senators to kick his ass to the curb. Then you would be free of his damning influence. He's a self-important child whom no one should follow.

@metal-brain saidI thought that was a Sonhouse post, it was Suzianne. Do you notice that she is yet defending Joe. Does she not realize that to defend Joe is to defend Hunter? How can she 'not give a crap' about Hunter, but give a crap about Joe. They are siamese twins!

@averagejoe1 saidYou could remind her of this hypocrisy:
I thought that was a Sonhouse post, it was Suzianne. Do you notice that she is yet defending Joe. Does she not realize that to defend Joe is to defend Hunter? How can she 'not give a crap' about Hunter, but give a crap about Joe. They are siamese twins!
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/09/joe-biden-crime-bill-and-americans-short-memory/597547/
But hypocrisy has never bothered her before. This is yet another example of the two tiered justice system. Biden voted to have people like his son rot in prison. That will never bother suzi and sonhouse though. It would only bother them if Trump's son was that way.
It is all partisan biased BS and they know it. They just never admit it. Harsh judgment is reserved for republicans.
@suzianne saidWell, there are defs all over the internet, but here is situtation where the term is actually used as the name of an internationally recognized operation to allow countries to be sovereign. I think it is a liberal stance for all countries to be mixed up in one can of soup, so I can understand why the phrase is foreign to you. Like, why borders?
You clearly have NO idea what 'sovereignty' means.
