I think most understand the profound difference between an 18 year old and a 14 year old, even though they're both typically prone to "idiocy". If you can't see a difference, I contend you don't remember high school that well.
some turned 18 in the third year of highschool. there were 14 year olds in the second year. suddenly, there isn't such a difference and it isn't so easy to calculate.

An 18 year old is not an adult?
and no, human beings don't magically turn adults the second they celebrate their 18th birthday. in the past, 18 year olds were serving in the army, having a wife with 1.5 children. they had jobs, they lived on their own. now, you would be lucky if a 24 year old acts with any kind of responsibility.
but yes, we set the boundary at 18 for voting. so does that follow we should also sentence 18 year olds to 15 years of prison and the cherry on the cake: a lifetime of registered sex offender status, for a victimless crime, one that individuals born just a couple months before him don't get absolutely no punishment for the same deed?

If 14 year olds are sleeping with 14 year olds, chances are no one is going to jail. Do you really think that just because somewhere, some 14 year olds are having sex that we should allow anyone of any age to sleep with 14 year olds? If not, then what's your point? Some 14 year olds may be having sex, but a lot more 18 year olds are, and even more 25 year olds are. Being 18 year old is a lot different than being 14 year old.
At work, if a shift manager is pressuring a supervised employee for sex, that is a crime. Society has figured out that it is easier for a supervisor to manipulate an employee than it is for someone who is a peer and has made laws accordingly. Do you know think an 18 year old can manipulate a 14 year old in ways that other 14 year olds can't?

Apparenty an 18 year old girl had sex with a 14 year old girl in South Florida. Under the law this is illegal and the 18 year old could face up to 18 years in prison and be labelled a sex offender. ...[text shortened]... s is "unfair". I thought that these people wanted equal rights under the law. What happened?

Whodey does not make the rules, I just expect everyone to follow them, including our beloved gay population.
Originally posted by whodeynobody is in fact following the rules. 18 year olds having are not being prosecuted. becuase judges and prosecutors understand something you don't: that they are kids doing stupid mistakes. this case is simply an opportunity for some ashole to set an example out of someone, be it for political reasons (elections may be coming) or homophobic reasons.

and while we are at it, isn't it odd you consider an 18 year old not mature enough to drink, but you consider him mature enough to vote and be tried as an adult? and ask the maximum sentence?
sorry for resurrecting this dead thread, but i thought i mention something.
just came across another internet article that points out something we overlooked.
the 18 year old girl was 17 when she started dating the 15. the parents of the 15 year old waited until the older one turned 18, then pressed charges.
coincidence right? is this still a case of an 18 year old "adult" maliciously corrupting an innocent girl?
