@no1marauder saidThat is a blow to Nikki because in the last debate she criticized DeSantis for not running a better campaign. In your face Nikki.
So it's A by an eyelash. https://decisiondeskhq.com/iowa-republican-presidential-caucus-results/
Kinda surprised DeSantis nosed out Haley for second; do they both stay in?
Despite Nikki finishing 3rd she had the hubris to claim she was in a “two-person race”. LOL

@no1marauder saidYeah DeSantis might have pulled out if he was a bad third but Haley was always treading water and waiting for New Hampshire, it’s bad news for her that Vivek has pulled out that will give trump another 8 points there if the polls are correct

@earl-of-trumps saidI'm fine with Trump slightly outperforming Walter Mondale for the rest of the election cycle.
The former president also surpassed Democrat Walter Mondale’s margin of victory, winning 51 per cent of the vote with 95 per cent of all counties reporting on Monday evening.
Turnout was pretty pathetic though the weather was certainly bad:
" In total, Edison Research estimated turnout at 115,000 on Monday night — down from 186,657 in 2016 and lower than 2012′s 121,503 and 2008′s 119,207. "

A lack of enthusiasm or a one off? Guess we'll see in New Hampshire.
Not exactly a representative slice of America either:
"In terms of turnout among groups, 89% said they were conservative, including 52% who were "very" conservative -- new highs.
White people accounted for 98% of caucusgoers and white evangelical Christians were 55%, a low (albeit just by 1 point vs. 2012)."

@kevcvs57 saidChristie was doing much better than Ramaswamy according to the polls from New Hampshire and his votes seem more likely to go to her or DeSantis. https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/republican-primary/2024/new-hampshire

@no1marauder saidA poor turnout is not surprising since the polls indicate Biden and Trump would win big anyway. My guess is most people who stayed home were trump or Biden supporters that didn't think needed their help. Perhaps some Vivek supporters stayed home because he was lagging behind in the polls and Trump stabbed him in the back after all the praise he gave Trump.

My guess is the elites told Trump if he wants a second term he has to call Vivek a fake and pick Nikki as his running mate just like they told him to pick Pence (voted for Iraq war after Trump criticized Hillary for it) if he wanted to be POTUS. You can tell a lot about a candidate by their veep picks. Pence was an establishment creep and so is Nikki.
That is how I know Trump will pick Nikki. Creeps keep creeps for company. Besides, if Trump has a heart attack and dies the elites want another creep to take his place. That is why Reagan had to pick Bush if he wanted to be POTUS. Reagan didn't even like Bush. He didn't pick Bush by choice.
@no1marauder saidChristie was probably bribed to pull out. Why else would he pull out so soon before the Iowa election? He was sucking votes from Nikki so the establishment made a deal with him if he dropped out earlier than anyone would have otherwise.

Remember how several candidates dropped out before Super Tuesday to help Biden? The whole system is rigged.

For 2020:

Five States Have Already Canceled GOP Primaries.
Kansas, Alaska, South Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada have all canceled their Republican primaries/caucuses in order to throw their support fully behind President Donald Trump

@no1marauder saidIn terrible weather in what's perceived to be a non-competitive race, it's hardly surprising that turnout is low. Anyway, the turnout wasn't much different than 2008 and 2012. 2016 was the outlier.

Personally, unless Trump dies or becomes incapacitated, I don't see a path to the nomination for anyone else.
@no1marauder saidDeSantis stays in because he placed second and Haley stays in because she's relying on NH. I think one of them remains in until Super Tuesday, but it becomes all but official on that day.

@mott-the-hoople saidYou can clearly see I wrote "for 2020" meaning those Republican states cancelled primaries for the 2020 election.
