@metal-brain saidWhy not? Would overachieving and getting 5% have meant anything?
@no1marauder
If you were Chris Christie would you have ended your campaign a mere 5 days before the Iowa primary?

@no1marauder saidWhat would you have to lose? Money? The primary was only 5 days away. Who says you need to spend money for those 5 days?
Why not? Would overachieving and getting 5% have meant anything?
Now imagine you were a donor to his Campaign. You gave him money only for him to throw in the towel. You wouldn't feel the least bit betrayed that he didn't even try?
Candidates that got less than 1% stayed in because they are not aspiring to be losers. Perhaps because they didn't want to stab their donors in the back for having faith in them to get a fargin vote.
Do you really believe Christie didn't intend to say Nikki would get smoked as if that is an acceptable excuse to give your votes to Nikki and Rick? Hot mic moment my ass.

@shavixmir saidWow, okay, that's finally too leftist for me. I mean, yeah, I get it, but a lot of folks are trying to raise kids here, and another Trump term scares the bejesus out of them.
I know. But I’ll happily blow up the world for a giggle.

@metal-brain saidThat's idiotic. Nikki will be harder to beat.
It was so close to the Iowa primary why not see how many votes he gets? I see no logical reason to pull out after spending campaign money and if he was out of money he could have still waited to see how he did in Iowa before he pulled out.
Apparently some democrats are voting for Nikki. Republicans should do the same for Williamson.

@no1marauder saidHe knew he wouldn't win any primary by bad-mouthing Trump. That's exactly why Haley and DeSantis don't attack him. They do not want to anger his base.
He didn't even campaign in Iowa and the last three polls before he dropped out, by Suffolk University, Iowa St./Civiqs and Trafalgar had him between 2 and 4%. https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/republican-primary/2024/iowa-caucus
"He did not set foot in Iowa during his campaign."

There seems to have been little reason for him to wait for the Iowa results.

@no1marauder said - Trump is political poison to all voters but conservative Republicans as the results since 2016 make clear.
he just got 51% of the Republican vote in a 3-horse race, by definition, he took in more than just the conservatives.

@Metal-Brain said - Apparently some democrats are voting for Nikki.
Nikki is a democrat. Not a RINO, a democrat. jeeezus.
1. Favors abortion
2. favors having illegal aliens (to do labor)
3. favors tax increases
there's one more too, and I will post it when I recall it.
@earl-of-trumps saidIs it the one Rand Paul mentions:

Register with the goobermint to say anything online.
@earl-of-trumps said89% of those voting in the Republican Iowa caucus self-identified as conservatives and Trump lost to Haley among the few who called themselves moderates.

And I was thinking more of the general election anyway; Republican candidates for the most part have been losing since 2016 largely because MAGA has alienated independents.

@no1marauder saidUntil recently Christie was polling at about 12% in NH. That is not bad considering he is the only candidate that would not defend Trump to pander to the GOP base.
Why not? Would overachieving and getting 5% have meant anything?

Is your answer a yes or a no? Would you have dropped out with better poll numbers than several candidates that were polling much worse and stayed in for Iowa? Would sticking it out to not give the middle finger to his political donors hurt anything?
Who do you think most of Christie's potential votes went to? DeSantis or Nikki?
330d
@sh76 saidMaybe because this will end his political career.
If I were Chris Christie, I wouldn't have entered the race in the first place (and I'd strongly consider Ozempic).
He had no chance in Iowa. Why be humiliated? Or maybe he thinks Trump will give him a job. I don't know. But I don't consider it suspicious at all.
Chris Christie: A man who knows when to quit.
He will forever be known as the political quitter.
Do you think Asa Hutchinson is stupid for not quitting before the primary election even starts? And what about the candidates that stayed in that got less votes than him?
How about by starting with what Christie had to lose. Is he returning some campaign money so they get showed some consideration? Why didn't Christie stay in until after the NH vote? He was polling at 12% there before he dropped out.
Chris Christie: A man who knows when to quit.
Great campaign slogan......for an opponent!
@metal-brain saidDude, after the primary is over, nobody cares when the other candidates dropped out.

Dropping out before you have a chance to sustain a humiliating loss is at least as good as dropping out after getting 4% in Iowa.
@sh76 saidYou don't want to know why he dropped out when others you have never heard of stayed in. Who would have gotten most of his potential votes? DeSantis or Haley?

And why are you evading his 12% poll numbers in NH? Are you suggesting he could not have waited until the NH primary vote? What did he have to lose? A lucrative bribe? Did Nikki send him a thank you note with flowers for NH?
