I'm far from an expert on the subject, but I think it definitely warrents a place in the debate forum.
My feeling is that the U.S will invade, they are just biding their time, preparing for the right moment.
Iran is a different kettle of fish to Iraq.
They have a larger and better armed military, more space to manoeuver and WMD.
My feeling is that the U.S has a plan for a New World Order. The first step is taking control of the middle east.
Iran is very old and very proud. The only thing in the U.S's favour is that it is desert warfare which levels the playing field. i.e the battlefield grants no advantage, so the superior force will win.
I believe that if we get through this conflict with no dire concequences, then there will be no stopping us. However if it goes bad; then start praying.
Please forgive and overlook my poor spelling, grammar etc.

The same that Iraq had no doubt.
I think we need to start praying whether things go badly or well for America irrespective.
Originally posted by NZDrifterPlus, Iran being strategically important geographically (not to mention wealthy on natural resources), the US will no doubt find themselves up against China and/or Russia (if even behind the stage). Noone really wants the US to gain even more power.

Well, with the exception of right-wing rich americans and their deluded followers, that is.

I reckon we should take on the world's most determined acquisitor of Weapons of Mass Destruction. No longer can the world be held to ransom by this evil force. Any nation that wishes to develop such stores of evil weaponry must be morally, spiritually and intellectually bankrupt. Down with the preachers of hate! To go with this we should also liberate this poor nation's oppressed citizenry; no more shall they be in thrall to their government's evil dictates and mind-control. No longer can they be allowed to terrorise and threaten our freedoms.
Who's with me? I don't have any guns but there are some big sticks in my garden, and I know a friend with a hedge-trimmer. Rally the troops, lock up your wives - America must be stoppped!

Originally posted by NZDrifterI'm not sure you're right on this. You're correct that desert warfare allows one side to dominate with air power and long range attacks because you can't hide from the planes or shells on flat, featureless ground. This is why Afganistan is so much more difficult to fight in than Iraq, because it is mountanous not desert. The same goes for Vietnam and Korea - jungle is the ultimate terain for defeating air power, napalm or not.

Anyway, I don't think Iran can be descrived as predominately desert - I thought it was largely mountainous, or at least hard large areas of moutains like Afganistan, making fighting the 'home team' vastly more difficult.
Originally posted by NZDrifterThe US will not move in with ground troops on a massive scale. Maybe there will be an aerial strike by Israel and or the US with the aim to delay Iran's nuclear program. Maybe there will be actions carried out by special forces, but certainly not a massive all out ground attack with the accompanying necessary air attacks to change the regime.
